Try the most ancient fermented beverage, tasting this Thursday

Posted by John Eckhart Posted on Oct - 31 - 2011

Dear Enotecans,

Hidden Legend WineryHave you ever tried Mead? Ok, let me ask this; have you ever tried really good Mead? I must admit when I first tried mead I was apprehensive. I had visions of renaissance fair enthusiasts and vikings enjoying the golden wine but not me. I was biased against mead as well, but that’s also because my very first introduction to it was not very good. Just like wine there are many different producers and just like wine some are better than others. So when I tried Hidden Legend’s line up I was pleasantly surprised and excited to tell you about it.

Let me introduce you to Hidden Legend Mead, by far my favorite brand of mead on our shelves here at Enoteca.  Out of Victor Montana, Hidden Legend winery uses local honey to produce this golden goodness.   Also known as honeywine, Mead is the oldest fermented beverage in the world, and for good reason!

Join us Thursday November 3rd at 7pm and try all that Hidden Legend has to offer!

Adam Smith, the wine maker / mead maker from Hidden Legend, will be here to share his delicious beverages, educate and answer questions.  The flavors we expect to be tasting are the Hidden Legend Maple Mead, the Hidden Legend Pure Honey Mead, the Hidden Legend Spiced Mead, Hidden Legend Chokecherry Mead, Hidden Legend Elderberry Mead and Hidden Legend Peach Mead.  Taste them all, only $10 per person.

This is a classroom format tasting that starts at 7 pm.

You can RSVP Here.

Here are my tasting notes for my top two favorite meads.

Hidden Legend Spiced Mead

Lovely Autumn aromas swirl in the goblet…I mean glass.  On the palate I get flavors similar to apple spice cake and caramel.  Hints of almond, Star Anise and Orange peel also begin to show. The mouth feel isn’t sticky or thick, it’s more like spiced cider and tawny port. This mead is also great warmed up. A serious fall beverage!  I see myself curled up by a fire reading Beowulf…

Hidden Legend Choke Cherry Mead

This award winning mead was made with local Montana choke cherries. It has aromas of fresh baked cherry pie with hints of honey and zest. On the palate the cherry pie continues with a tart zing on the finish.  Again, not cloying or heavy. It has a nice balance. Enjoy slightly chilled.

Of course you can see all the Hidden Legend meads at Enoteca on this page.
