Dear Enotecans,

This email is about our wine tasting this weekend, to dial in your email preferences, you can click the Change Email Preferences link above. By clicking that link you can decide what type of emails you’d like to receive. You can even opt to get the updates via Facebook if that is more convenient for you.

We’re opening up the Boxes!  They’ve arrived and we have some left to try.  The Shiraz is already sold out, but there are 3 other varieties available, and they all taste great for the money.  We’re pouring flights of these for FREE until we run out Friday 4-7 and Saturday 12-7.  We’re also pouring a regular “high end” flight for $10 per person that will be featuring some high value wines that are incredible for the money.

Man in a Box

Prepare for spring, get ready for parties, boating and water adventures! Since you can’t take glass on the water, these good-tasting wines in the box are a great way to enjoy the best of both worlds.

Do you like the price of “Two Buck Chuck” but want to get better wine for your bucks? This offer can help.

If you’ve been patronizing Enoteca Fine Wine and Beer for a while you’ve probably noticed we don’t do a lot with boxed wine. This offer is a worthy exception. We have nothing against boxes, the “bag in a box” style of wine enclosure is a technically great way to keep your wine fresh and oxidation free over the course of the time it takes to drink. In this offer we have secured some good mid-range wine from South Africa in 3 Liter boxes, each box being equal to 4 regular bottles of wine.

The regular price for these 3 Liter boxes of wine is $25, and the regular price for the normal 750ml bottle size is $10. For this offer, until we are sold out, we are able to sell these 3L Boxes for under $10 each! That’s like getting 4 bottles for the price of 1! Or look at it as $2.50 per bottle, even less with Member discounts.

There are 6 boxes to a case, so Wine and Beer of the Month Club Members can get case discounts on an order of 6 boxes, either all the same or mix-and-match. We were able to secure limited amounts of each of these wines so the orders will be filled first-come first-served. An order is complete when we have your order *and* payment information on file.

Can I just Order some online?

If you want to secure some without coming down this weekend, just place your order now and we will charge your CC and email you a receipt as a notice to come and get it!

The pricing on all four of these wines is as follows:

[Member: $8.99 / Retail: $9.99 / Member Case of 6 Each: $8.49]

Nervous about boxed wine?

Here’s what Tim Fish said writing for the Wine Spectator:

If you’re new to the concept, the wine isn’t really in a box. It’s in a vacuum-sealed plastic bag inside a box and dispensed through a tap. The bag collapses as the wine is dispensed, preventing oxygen from getting inside and preserving the wine for several weeks. If you’re a casual drinker and enjoy a glass or two a night, it’s just the thing.

Here’s what Man Vintners says about their boxes of wine:

A bag-in-a-box will keep for about 4-6 weeks after opening if properly refrigerated.

Tasting Notes on the Man Vintners Wines

White WineMan Vintners Chardonnay 3.0L
(Agter-Paarl, Coastal Region, South Africa)

This refreshing style of Chardonnay is made with a touch of oak for added complexity and richness. Melon, tropical fruit and citrus aromas, a rounded palate with butterscotch notes and prominent fruit flavors. A versatile wine that will complement virtually any food. Serve chilled.

Sourced from two vineyards in the Agter-Paarl region. Grapes were hand harvested at full ripeness. After pressing and settling, the must was inoculated with South African yeast. 15% of the wine was fermented in small American oak barrels; the remaining wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks. After fermentation all the wine was placed in stainless steel tanks, lying on the lees for 4 and ½ months with regular stirring. Fined and filtered before bottling.

White WineMan Vintners Chenin Blanc/Viognier Blend 3.0L
(Agter-Paarl, Coastal Region, South Africa)

This is a medium-bodied white with made from South Africa’s classic white variety, Chenin Blanc. The Chenin Blanc gives the wine its bold guava and melon flavors and a refreshing acidity. The Viognier was added for extra body and its intriguing floral notes. This wine will go well on its own as an aperitif or outside on a hot summer’s day. It will pair well with a wide range of foods, especially Asian curries, fish dishes and summer salads. Serve chilled.

Grapes from several premium vineyards, mostly situated in the Agter-Paarl area. Mostly-free-run Chenin Blanc used for this wine. The wine was cold-fermented over 20 days in stainless steel tanks. The wine is made in a fresh, crisp style. A splash of Viognier was added for a touch of richness and spice. The wine was fined and filtered before bottling.

Here’s what wine reviewer James Fink has to say:

“When it comes to my favorite value wines to bring to a party, I find myself coming back again and again to the MAN Vintners Chenin Blanc and the Tres Picos Garnacha from Borsao.

From South Africa, the MAN Vintners Chenin Blanc has surprising richness for being so humble in price. It’s a taste of how well Chenin Blanc does in South Africa, arguably second only to France’s Loire Valley. And it gives you the opportunity to make extremely corny comments like, “It just got easier to find a good MAN.” (Guilty.) The MAN Vintners Chenin Blanc is great with salads, seafood, and tofu tacos.”

Red WineMan Vintners Cabernet Sauvignon 3.0L
(Agter-Paarl, Coastal Region, South Africa)

A bold and juicy red wine with red-berry fruit aromas and a touch of oak spice. Classic cabernet cassis and red-currant fruit flavors with silky tannins and long finish. It should go nicely with a wide range of foods, particularly red meats and pasta.

From several un-irrigated vineyards in the Agter-Paarl area. Our shale soils have excellent water retention ability and give concentrated, flavourful grapes, which were hand-harvested at optimum ripeness and given a 2 day cold maceration. Fermentation took place over 5 days in stainless steel tanks with regular pump-overs. Just before dryness, the wine was pressed and put back into tank for malo-lactic fermentation. 21% of the wine was matured in 225 l American oak barrels (25% new) for 12 months. Fined and filtered before bottling.
