Thanksgiving Wishes

Dear Enotecans,

Thanksgiving day is just around the corner! This email is all about this weekend’s wine tasting event.  If you’re not interested in tasting events, you can click the Email Preferences link above to change your subscription.

We’re open this Monday, November 21st from 11-7 for your convenience.  Come on down and try some Gluhwein, or get an early start on your Thanksgiving beverage shopping.

If you’re like us, you’re spending the next week preparing for setting the table for one epic meal.  Grocery shopping, sourcing fine meats, veggies, and ingredients for the special dinner.  We’re inviting you this Friday and Saturday to taste a few of our favorite Turkey-Day wines, and consider them for your special table setting.  The tasting is drop-in from 4-7 on Friday and 12-7 on Saturday.  You can taste them all for only $6 per person.  If the descriptions are good enough, feel free to simply place an order with the links below.

Besides the tasting we are keeping the St. Christopher Gluhwein warm for a taste any time!

Pasek Cranberry Wine

Pasek Cellars Cranberry Wine is produced from whole Northwest Cranberries. A favorite during the holidays, this wine has become a staple among its loyal, enthusiastic fans throughout the year.  Featuring an abundant cranberry flavor with a slightly sweet mid-palate that finishes out crisp and clean. This wine is a great match with pork, poultry, and spicy Asian foods. Serve Chilled.

The flavor on this is best of both worlds to me, slightly sweet, but also slightly tart, just like cranberry sauce. Yummm! My favorite part is the beautiful color it presents, and how awesome it looks in the glass at the Thanksgiving table.  Pick up a few bottles and start your meal with it.

White Wine K Vintners Viognier
(Columbia Valley, Washington)

Another deliciously refreshing vintage. Acacia and tobacco blossom, stone fruits and a hint of baking spice, all wrapped up in a mouth-watering box with a big bright bow on top. What do we have here folks? Yet another winner winner chicken dinner!

Viognier is a favorite white wine of mine, because of the beautiful aromatics and crisp mouth feel.  Goes great with all fish dishes and poultry.  This excellent example from K Vintners is one I can sip on myself for hours.  We have a small stash that we can sell at a discounted price.

Red WineNapa Cellars Pinot Noir
(Napa Valley, California)

“The 2009 Pinot Noir has rich layers of homemade cherry pie including aromas of ripe bing cherries, graham crackers and baking spices. Velvety flavors glide over the palate with long, lasting fruit and spice characteristics. The wine ends with firm, ripe tannins and a malt and toffee finish. – Joe Shirley

Pinot Noir is a classic red wine to serve with the Thanksgiving meal, this one is deliciously smooth and fruity, and doesn’t come across as too thin.  Easy to drink on its own or pair with the meal.  We were able to secure some cases at a special holiday price.

Regular Price $22.  Get it for 35% off now.

Red WineCandor Merlot Lot 1
(Central Coast, California)

Candor takes advantage of excellent vineyard spots all over the state, from Paso Robles to Lodi to Santa Barbara County.  The mix of fruit makes for a Merlot that has plenty going on. Fresh blackberry and plums blend with layers of cardamom and all spice and just a hint of  smoke. Medium bodied with a balance of acid and tannin to make this Merlot food ready and easy going and with that it is also reasonably priced!

Red WineFinca el Origen Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon
(Valle de Uco, Mendoza, Argentina)

This has been a favorite at several recent pouring events.  Among its complex aromas of black fruit, blackberries, black cherries, blueberries and cassis stand out, combined with spices such as black pepper, balsamic notes and tobacco.   On the palate, it is a fresh wine with good structure and balance as well as sweet and velvety tannins.

Some people just love Cabernet.  If you’re one of those people, we understand, and we feel you should drink what you like with your Thanksgiving dinner.  This handy bottle of wine throws a nice twist on the tradition by sourcing from Argentina.  What we’re finding is that great values are coming out of South America right now, good flavor at a fraction of the price of a similar quality Napa Cab.
