Short Sale Daily Deal #3 Wednesday April 11th

Now we travel to ItalyItaly, let’s take a journey…

Red WineZonin Regions Merlot – 40% off
(Veneto, Italy)

Not your typical Italian, or your typical Merlot. This wine is very interesting and stands on its own. It’s a beautiful ruby red color in the glass. Fruity nose with notes of cherry, berry fruit, and violets. Delicate red fruit, nice medium body and soft, gentle tannins. Enjoy with roasted meats, pizza and pasta! This wine is meant for fun, not too serious.

Regular Price: $9.99
Short Sale Price: $5.99
Savings: $4 per bottle, or 40%

Red WineZonin Regions Cabernet Sauvignon – 40% off
(Delle Venezie, Italy)

This Italian Cabernet is a little more sturdy than the Merlot, but still a fun wine. Look for cranberry and cherry notes, with a hint of cocoa nib. A bit more tannin present than the Merlot, but the mouth feel is still fresh and balanced. Enjoyable and affordable, pair with a pizza or hamburger.

Regular Price: $9.99
Short Sale Price: $5.99
Savings: $4 per bottle, or 40%

Reminds me of a quaffable French red…

Red WineSebastien Vincenti Dom de Fondreche Cotes-du-Ventoux 750ml – 50% off
(Cotes-du-Ventoux, France)

It’s smooth without being flat, it’s fruity without being jammy, it has subtle savory and meaty notes that take it beyond the average, without being overly funky. Here’s what Sarah thought about it:

Immediately upon opening, there’s a big nose of sweet cherry, with more meatiness on the palette. A lot of savory notes and would go great with food. After 2 hours of having the bottle open, it has a huge black raspberry nose with juicy delicate palate. Very nice and feminine. Yummy!

Regular Price: $11.99
Short Sale Price: $5.99
Savings: $6 per bottle, or 50%

Like a local big Bordeaux style red?

Red WineNodland Cellars Private Reserve 2005 – 25% off – Only 20 bottles remain
(Columbia Valley, Washington)

This is a big bold brash Bordeaux style wine that needs to decant for a while or age for a while before digging into. I love the European style that Nodland brings to the table.

Ripe juicy plums and cracked black peppercorn, Bing cherries, licorice and dark chocolate and a hint of vanilla. The next layer is white pepper, middle eastern spice, exotic north African fruit. The wine finishes with tobacco, quince, earth, mineral, espresso, more Asian spice, violets and a variety of desirable sub-flavors. Layers and layers of fruit and spice with a long finish. A great compliment to red meat, Irish white cheddar, salmon, lamb, pork or chicken.

43 % Merlot – Seven Hills Vineyard, 39 % Cabernet Sauvignon – Pepperbridge Vineyard, 9 % Cabernet Franc – Dineen Vineyard, 5 % Malbec – Gamache Vineyard, 3% Carmenere – Davis Vineyard, 1 % Petit Verdot – Jessica Vineyard.

Delille Doyenne RoseAnd pink, but not sweet…

Pink WineDelille Doyenne Rose – 25% off – 7 bottles remain
(Columbia Valley, Washington)

The cool and late 2010 vintage resulted in crisp, focused, and aromatic white wines, which carried over to the 2010 Rosé as well. There is considerably more Cinsault in this year’s blend resulting in a beautiful, pink-salmon color. Our 2010 Rosé features fruit-forward aromas of strawberry, melon, and nectarine notes along with subtle herb, anise and leaf tones. The palate is bright, refreshing, and silky with mixed berries and orange peel notes. The long finish echoes those berries and fruits. A delicious wine that is great for chicken dishes, salmon or just by itself.

55% Grenache, 30% Cinsault, 15% Mourvedrè

Regular Price: $24.99
Short Sale Price: $18.99
Savings: $6 per bottle, or 25%

How about age-able luxury Italian Super Tuscan wine…

Red WineAldoneMarchesato Aldone SuperTuscan Merlot 2005 – 70% off – Only 8 available
(Tuscany, Italy)

This is one seriously big Merlot, and it comes in a pretty wooden box. SuperTuscans are non-traditional red wines from Tuscany. This is a 100% Merlot, a delicious example of what can be done with the French grape on Italian soil. It needs lots of age, lots of decanting, it’s a big boy.  With the wooden box presentation, this would make a great gift.

And a some interesting beer…

BeerBaird Angry Boy Brown 12oz – 33% off
(Numazu, Shizuoka, Japan)

Beneath the cool facade of the warrior, a red-hot flame of intensity, determination and, yes, anger burns. So it is with this unpredictable Brown Ale: fleeting malty sweetness and warmth hide complexity, a barely controlled bitterness, and, naturally, a bit of an angry edge. You’ve really got yourself into a situation now. “Anger is energy. Use it, then let it go.” Kampai!

6.2% ABV
Available in 12oz bottle.

Try on some fancy port for size…

Taylor Fladgate 30 Year
BeerTaylor Fladgate 30 Year Tawny Port 750ml – 30% off – only 4 bottles available
(Porto, Portugal)

Only every two or three years is a reserve of port with sufficient structure, fruit and power to age, produced from Taylor’s own vineyards, laid aside to age in oak casks. Those that have reached their peak after thirty years are then blended together for balance and finesse, and to ensure consistency of quality and style. The 30 year old tawny shows incredible length with smooth butterscotch and caramel flavors.
