Short Sale Daily Deal #2 Tuesday April 10th

Let’s hit up some white wines to begin with, and see where that takes us…

White WineParaiso Santa Lucia Riesling 2007 – 60% off
(Santa Lucia Highlands, California)

Cool climate Riesling from the Highlands, crafted in a food-friendly Alsacian style, with some light sweetness but not too sweet.

GOLD MEDAL – Los Angeles International Wine Competition

Here’s one tasting note that might sound strange, but give it a shot: Lemon Jolly Rancher. This wine has some of the beeswax viscous texture that defines Alsacian rieslings, of course from California this is a nice treat.

It’s on the dry side of Riesling and shows wonderful acidity cuddled by apricot and peach fruits. There’s a hint of lime on the finish. Perhaps there is a trace of residual sugar, but barely perceptible if any, yet the wine is rich and luscious with some weight on the palate.

Food Pairing: Asian food! Anything spicy and hot!

Bodegas Nieto Senetiner has 1,000 acres of proprietary-owned vineyards in Mendoza, the country’s best wine growing region.
The winery has a state of the art bottling facility.

Bright purple with aromas of black currant, black cherry, plum, tar, clove and subtle tobacco. Medium-full with very good
concentration and a rich mid-palate. This beautifully structured finish offers good persistence of fruit, lively acidity,
nicely integrated oak and light herbal notes. Impressive now, this should drink well for five to seven years. Allow this wine time to open up, either by decanting or swirling in your glass. The fruit comes forward more with more oxygen.

And a some great Belgian/Californian beer…

BeerSierra Nevada Ovila Saison 750ml – 20% off
(Chico, California)

A collaboration between Sierra Nevada Brewing Co and the monks at the Abbey of New Clairvaux, Ovila Abbey Saison brings the centuries-old monastery brewing tradition to America. Ovila Abbey Saison is complex and contemplative-but also refreshingly dry and drinkable. With earthy and spicy aromas, this rustic Saison has note of green grass and a faint citrus tang. The body is light and layered with fruit and spice accents and a dry, peppery finish. A portion of the proceedsfrom this ale go toward the restoration of the historic Santa Maria de Oliva chapter house on the grounds of the Abbey of New Clairvaux. This medieval building stood for nearly eight centuries in Spain. William Randolph Hearst purchased the monastery in 1931 and planned to use the stones for a castle even grander than his famous San Simeon. Although Hearst’s plan crumbled, these historic stones will rise again in a California Cistercian abbey.

And a romantic wine glass plus decanter set…

Riedel For Two PinotRiedel Pinot Noir Wine Glasses 2 pack + Decanter – 40% off
(Germany)

These wider style Pinot stems will go great with the Pinot Noir you picked up in yesterday’s Daily Deal Short Sale! They’re also great for any Nebbiolo based wine such as Barolo and Barbaresco, or for Tempranillo based wine such as Rioja. I personally use a set of these regularly for Syrah as well, and Champagne really comes alive from these glasses.

Riedel’s ForTwo is a complete gift set that includes two Wine Pinot Noir glasses and a matching decanter allowing two to begin enjoying fine wine in style. With this fine collection of glasses, Riedel achieves what the essence of wine and other beverage drinking is all about: enjoyment. Perfect for everyday use, the set for two is part of the moderately priced Riedel series offered by world-renowned German wineglass maker Riedel Crystal Being lead-free, they’re not crystal like Riedel’s premium glasses but are machine blown of potash glass and are dishwasher-safe. Each long-stemmed glass stands 8-3/4 inches tall and holds a generous 24-3/4 ounces at full capacity. The included decanter is the Riedel Merlot which measures 9-1/2″ with a capacity of 34-1/4 ounces.

Riedel glass should be washed by hand to prevent detergent residue that can affect wine taste. The set ForTwo makes an excellent gift.
