Dear Enotecans,

Ready for a little Romance?  The wine tasting this weekend features wines from the Romance countries of France, Spain, and Italy.

If you’re ever wondering what sort of tasting events we have coming up, check out the tasting event calendar on our website any time.

This is a drop-in tasting so just come on down and show up Friday from 4-7 and Saturday 12-7!

Haven’t been to an Enoteca tasting yet? Read what it’s like here.

Here’s a sneak peek at the wines we will be pouring:

White Wine ItalyZonin Primo Amore Moscato di Asti

This smash-hit favorite that a lot of people are discovering at the Olive Garden will fit the bill.

The color is straw-yellow with golden reflections and a delicate mousse. The bouquet is fruity and very inviting, with intense scents of peaches and exotic fruit. The flavor is fresh and pleasantly sweet with a taste that reveals its varietal characteristic. Excellent as dessert wine it matches perfectly with jam tarts fruit salads and pastry. Also delicious with ice cream, or just on its own as an accompaniment to conversation among friends. Serve it chilled.

100% Moscato bianco

Red WineFranceSebastien Vincenti Dom de Fondreche Cotes-du-Ventoux
(Cotes-du-Ventoux, France)

Yes it’s French! I opened this “ugly label award” winner with a couple Francophiles at Enoteca the other day. Joan and Ken (Bin #195) shared this with me and we all really liked it. It’s smooth without being flat, it’s fruity without being jammy, it has subtle savory and meaty notes that take it beyond the average, without being overly funky. Here’s what Sarah thought about it:

Immediately upon opening, there’s a big nose of sweet cherry, with more meatiness on the palette. A lot of savory notes and would go great with food. After 2 hours of having the bottle open, it has a huge black raspberry nose with juicy delicate palate. Very nice and feminine. Yummy!

Red WineSpainAlmira Los Dos Syrah / Grenache Magnum
(Campo de Borja, Spain)
A blend of 93% Grenache and 7% Syrah. Dark purple in color with aromas of cherry, fennel and pepper. Bright cherry flavors with some white pepper finishing with good acidity. Simple, juicy and a nice value.

Red WineVina Mayor Toro Ribera del Duero
(Toro, Spain)

Color: Dark cherry red.
Aroma: Ripe black fruits, liquorice and spice from the barrel.
Taste: Well balanced but powerful fruit flavours, with elegant fine tannins. Complex, with a long finish.

90 Points – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

This is a fantastic bottle of wine from the Toro region of Spain. Very powerful and over the top on release, we’ve dusted off some bottles that have finally come to maturation. If you haven’t had Spanish wine before, or haven’t found one you like, give this beauty a shot, and don’t hesitate to serve it with your favorite rustic meat and veggie dinner.

100% Tinta de Toro (Tempranillo)

Red WineItalyLivernano Chianti Classico
(Chianti Classico, Tuscany, Italy)
Lively ruby red in color. Fresh on the nose with notes of violets and red fruits. The pleasant and enjoyable palate boasts rounded tannins. Perfect for young drinking.

This Chianti Classico, a blend of 80% Sangiovese and 20% Merlot, possesses the lively aromatics and rich fruit of its bigger brothers, but is designed for younger drinking. A prime example of the appellation.

You have to check out the label on this one, it’s great.
