juliettes-dazzleDear Enotecans,

Guess what’s coming back?!  Expected at the end of March, get your pre-order in now for Washington State’s premier rose.  This wine has made a big splash in the last couple years, selling out each vintage.  It’s a dry rose, pink but not sweet, made in a unique way with Pinot Gris and Sangiovese.  This is a hard wine to photograph, the image to the right gives an impression of the bottle shape but in person it look more dazzling.

ETA:  This wine is NOT in stock, it is expected the last week of March.  Pre-order to ensure availability.

Rose WineLong Shadows Juliette’s Dazzle Rosé 2012
The Benches Vineyard, Horse Heaven Hills, Washington)

This is the brand new vintage of Long Shadows Juliette’s Dazzle!  It’s a touch drier than last years, meaning it displays even more elegance and finesse!

From the winery:

“Named after Allen’s granddaughter, Juliette’s Dazzle is light pink in color and offers aromas of strawberry and orange peel. It is a dry style but with sweet fruit flavors and clean sharp acidity creating a light and refreshing finish.”

98% Pinot Grigio and 2% Sangiovese. Pale pink salmon in color. Very aromatic with raspberry, cherry, and floral notes on both the nose and palate. Dry and light to medium-bodied with crisp acidity and a long, refreshing finish. Residual Sugar: 1%

My Oh My! I found a new favorite wine!

It was a dinner to remember. I made a cedar plank salmon with a simple salad with fresh ingredients from my garden…well the cucumbers were from Greenbluff. It was a warm night and as we sat down to enjoy the summer bounty we opened this new wine from Long Shadows named Juliette’s Dazzle. I was anxious to try it since I’m a sold out fan of the winery. Oh boy, was I dazzled! This Rose is lovely in every way. The aroma was exotic, floral and fruit notes swirled together, enticing me. Notes of wild rose, fresh Strawberry, Raspberry, Cherry, Orange blossom jasmine and happiness. As I took a sip the aromas followed suit. I could taste the fruit and hints of the floral aroma lingered. Slightly creamy mid palate gave way to bright acid and a slight hint of sweetness. Oak was not invited to this party. So while the creaminess of the pinot gris has a part it gives way to the acid and the finish is lingering but clean. This wine has it all.

My mother as an example hates white wine. Treats it like a second class citizen. She is a Cabernet or Merlot drinker at heart. She was very pleased with this wine and asked me several time (not joking) when I would order it for Enoteca and when would they deliver it? Why would a red wine drinker love this rose? Well, it’s made predominately of Pinot Gris grapes but they add 3% Sangiovese. This helps give the wine it’s jewel like color but also lends to the depth of flavor you find in this rose. Not quite as dry as a traditional French Rose but has similar qualities. It does have ~1% residual sugar so that does bring something to the table but it isn’t “sweet” and it isn’t “dry”. She is her own.

She brings peace to the division between red wine drinkers and white wine drinkers.  It is a new favorite and more versatile than it seems at first glance.  This beauty is hard to photograph, this picture doesn’t really do it justice. See it, try it for yourself, and be dazzled!
