terras-do-po-tintoPortuguese Wine – Big Value!

white-wineTerras do Pó Branco (White)
(Regional Península de Setúbal, Portugal)

50_sarahSarah: Look for the tangerine and peach notes in this crisp white wine, with vibrant acidity and a pretty floral and tropical nose!

A fruity white wine with light-green tints, reminiscent of citrus and tropical fruit. Its excellent level of acidity makes this a crisp, fresh wine. Fresh, very pleasant, with a fruity end note.

red-wineTerras do Pó Tinto (Red)
(Regional Península de Setúbal, Portugal)

50_sarahSarah: Big wine with cheey tannins, for those who love a “big cab” style.  The bright acidity makes it perfect for BBQ or other rich foods.  Notice the cinnamon and nutmeg notes as part of the palate, and I even got a little cola, reminding me a little of Dr. Pepper.  If you like a big bold wine, this is your new best friend.

A ruby-coloured wine that is concentrated, rich in good-quality tannins and very complex. With aromas reminiscent of mature red fruit, it is well matched by the wood which endows it with a touch of vanilla. A persistent, long-lasting finish.

grilos-red

white-wineQuinta dos Grilos Branco (White)
(Dão, Besteiros, Portugal)

50_sarahSarah: Clean and easy white wine, with a pleasant acidity.  Notice the lemon creme deliciousness.  It feels like a perfect balance between Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris.  It has all the best parts of both worlds.  If you like either of those varieties, you should try this great value Portugese wine!

Floral, delicate, with a dash herbaceous, citrus and white fruit. Slim and pleasant in the mouth, good dryness, acidity, well balanced, with slightly savory finish.

red-wineQuinta dos Grilos Tinto (Red)
(Dão, Besteiros, Portugal)

50_sarahSarah: Surprisingly sophisticated for the price!  It’s grown ups wine at a great price.  Think of the Spanish and French style wines, but not a dirty or earthy wine.  Super good fruit up front and a great balance of tannin and acidity, some great savory notes to balance the fruit.  Just a really good wine at an incredible deal price.

The color is an intense ruby. The aroma shows notes of red fruits like black cherry and raspberry. In the mouth it has an excellent balance between acids and tannins.

Alfrocheiro, Tinta-Roriz, Touriga Nacional

portugaIn case you missed Portuga! the first time…

red-winePortuga Red
(Estramadura, Portugal)

Portuga is made by Casa Santos Lima, a brilliant estate situated around 45km north of Lisbon. They make modern wines but without losing their Portuguese roots. They grow more than 50 different varieties in total, including a wide range of indigenous grapes but also a number of international varieties.

This red blend red combines the local Castelao (think peppery spice and wild herbs) and Touriga Franca (gorgeous aromatics and plum fruits) with the better known Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. It’s a match made in heaven.

Official Tasting notes: Dark ruby colour. Intense aromas of black and red fruits with a hint of cinnamon from balanced oak ageing. Smooth, fresh and fruity; you get loads of juicy, ripe raspberry and plum fruits but with delicate floral notes, savoury spice and just a hint of vanilla. Perfect for the barbecue season.

40% Castelão, 30% Touriga Franca, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Syrah

50_sarahSarah: Lush ripe cherry and raspberry nose, which follows to the palate. Fruit forward with a hint of cinnamon spice and cola nut. Balanced tannin, acidity and medium bodied.  Not a heavy red so very enjoyable for the warm months. An incredible deal for a great quality wine!

Portuga regularly retails for $9, which is a pretty snazzy deal.  However, right now we can offer Portuga for:
