New Fall Wine Flight: Washington Merlot! This Friday’s Featured Flight!

Posted by John Eckhart Posted on Oct - 18 - 2013

h3-merlotDear Enotecans,

Did you know Merlot is the biggest wine out of Washington State? Some people really go for Cabernet Sauvignon for big wine, and from certain regions that can be true, but across the board in Washington, Merlot are the Big Boys. Join the discussion about it on our Facebook page here.  The weather has cooled down, the trees are turning colors, come on down and enjoy this delicious Fall Wine Flight.

Every Day Wine by the Glass List

Enoteca now has a full service bar, which we like to call the Drinkery & Refuge, including a regular wine by the glass list. Come in any time, Monday-Saturday, 4pm-last customer for a great glass of wine and a conversation. This list changes irregularly, we keep things on that you like and bring on new things that we think you’ll like! Right now we have some serious winners on the list, and some new contenders that we’ve recently added.  Don’t miss Walla Walla Vintners Cuvee and Liquid Geography Rose by the glass.

Wine Flight Any Time

We now have a regular full wine flight always available, Monday-Saturday and the flight changes every quarter. For this Fall, it’s a Washington Merlot Flight!

Why I love Washington Merlot…

If you’re drinking exclusively Napa valley wine, you’ll probably come to the conclusion that Cabernet Sauvignon is serious, big boy wine, and Merlot is soft mushy stuff best served to the guests you don’t like.  Come up to Washington now, and let go of those preconceptions.  You’ll find like I have that Merlot is the king here.  The first wine that made me realize this: Boudreaux Merlot.  I had been collecting the Cabernet and loving it, then tried it side-by-side with the Merlot and discovered it was Bigger!  Pepperbridge Cabernet outsells the Merlot 2-1, but the Merlot is the bigger, better wine.  Each of these wines in this Merlot flight are delicious examples of Washington Merlot, come learn and give it a try.

seven-falls-merlotOf course all of the Flight wines are available by the glass as well, and our retail side does have them in stock to take home if you find one you love. This happens a lot.

red-wineH3 Merlot
(Horse Heaven Hills, Washington)

The H3 Merlot opens with aromas of raspberries, black pepper and earthy tones which lead to flavors of chocolate covered cherries and plum preserves on the silky smooth palate. The flavors and aromas culminate in an intense – yet elegant – finish.

(Columbia Valley, Washington)

The Indian Wells Merlot offers ripe berry fruit aromas and jammy flavors typical of Wahluke Slope reds. This is a full bodied style of warm climate Merlot with a round, supple finish. We added Wahluke Slope syrah to enhance the mouthfeel and rich fruit character. I call this my pasta wine!

(Wahluke Slope, Washington)

The Merlot is a classic Washington State wine, with dark fruit character, good structure, and a rich, silky mouthfeel. The slightly softer tannins allow this wine to enhance, not mask, the flavors of milder foods.
