Mixology Monday Tonight: Bring Your Questions – like why shake or stir?

Dear Enotecans,

What is Mixology Monday all about?  It’s about learning the WHY of making drinks.  We’re going well beyond simple recipes for drinks, we’re here to teach different techniques, different ingredients and reasons behind using them.  Get your tickets online now and come with your questions ready, and feel free to come up with questions when you get here!

Some questions I’ve heard, that can be addressed at a Mixology Monday event:

Shaken or stirred?  What is the purpose of shaking, or stirring, and why would you use either technique in a given drink?  Mixologist Ryan Roberge is a proponent of stirring, and he has some very good reasons, while Jake and Zach tend towards shaking, and they have their reasons.  Come learn more about it!

What glass should a certain drink be served in?  What is the purpose of the different shapes of glassware?  Do they change the flavor of the drink, or is it all just presentation?  Does it really matter, or can I have my margarita in a Slurpee cup?

What can I substitute?  Ever start making a drink and realize you don’t have the exact ingredients listed?  Or perhaps you see a cool drink but don’t want to go out and buy 3 new bottles of liquor just to make one drink you might not even love?  There are a world of substitutes possible, but it’s important to know some basic principles to properly substitute and still end up with a good drink.

Mixology Monday: Sweethearts Edition

This time of year I’m always looking for something original to do for my special lady around Valentines Day. It turns out that our planned schedule for Mixology Monday lands on February 11th, the week of V-Day, so our mixologists Ryan Roberge and Zach Williams have devised a romance-specific Mixology Monday class! First a few reminders, then on to the event!

This is a fun and educational event featuring 4 drinks that you will learn to make, and enjoy drinking at this event.  You can learn WHY the decisions are made in drinks too.  You must get tickets in advance, space is limited and when it’s sold out, it’s sold out.

From the reports I’ve heard, most of the people who came to our first Mixology Monday really enjoyed it, learned a lot, and I’ve seen them come back with friends and family to show off what kind of fantastic drinks are being made in Post Falls.

Ryan Roberge, pictured here, has been working for the last few weeks on a special menu for the Valentine’s Week Mixology Monday.

This special Valentines Week Mixology Monday features four drinks, unique and original takes on four classic cocktails, the Brandy Alexander, The Julep, French 75 and the Cosmopolitan.

We will be talking about the originals, but preparing very special versions for Valentines Day, and preparing them to be shared. One of each drink will be able to be shared by a couple, how romantic! We can also split them into two glasses if you need, or if you’re coming alone.

The education will be focused on the ingredients, and Mixology techniques. We’ll be exploring liqueurs, garnishes, and special cocktails featuring wine and beer.

The cost is only $17 per person, which includes an interactive educational experience and 4 full sized drinks to share, or 4 half sized drinks for one.
