Memorial Weekend Wine Tasting

Posted by John Eckhart Posted on May - 25 - 2012

Memorial Day

Dear Enotecans,

This email is about our wine tasting this weekend. To change your email preferences, click the appropriate link above. To better understand the options, see this page.

First and foremost, we want to extend our thanks and gratitude to the veterans who have served to protect our freedom, with a special remembrance to those who have paid the ultimate price.  We remember and salute you.

It’s Memorial Day Weekend, and we’re staying indoors out of the inevitable rain to pour some tasty wine!  We’ll be pouring from 4-7pm Friday, and from 12-7pm Saturday. If you’ve never been to a wine tasting with us before, check out our What is Wine Tasting Like? page.

Stop on by for a quick flight of wine Friday afternoon, or perhaps come for some fine beer on tap and fill up your growler to take with you this weekend!  Did you get a text message to let you know that we just tapped Hop 15?  Click here to sign up for text messages when we tap kegs.

White WineWindrun Chardonnay
(Santa Barbara, California)

Winemaker Ken Brown makes this affordable Santa Barbara County Chardonnay, which sources fruits from the Los Alamos and Santa Maria sub-appellations. Aromas of baked spiced apples come through on the nose and continue onto the palate, which has a streak of minerals and crisp, bright acidity. Fresh, easy to drink and food-friendly.

100% Chardonnay

Red WineHuntington Cabernet Sauvignon
(Sonoma Valley, California)

Mouth-coating flavors of berry and spice give way to mocha and a natural oak finish.

Beautifully deep and dark, the Huntington Cabernet Sauvignon is vibrant and full-bodied. Juicy notes of blackberry and currant are elegant and persistent on the nose and palate.

This Cabernet Sauvignon pairs well with lean grilled meats with a wide variety of cold compound butters. Try it also with mushrooms or bold pasta dishes, such as wild boar ragu. For a simpler yet equally delicious option, sip this wine with Parmigiano-Reggiano at the end of a meal.

Red WineRobert Carl Claret
(Phinney Hill Vineyard, Horse Heaven Hills, Washington)

The Horse Heaven Hills Claret is a blend of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon,
15% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, 15% Petit Verdot, and 10% Malbec. The fruit was sourced from our estate vines at Gunselman Bench, Andrews Horse Heaven Ranch, McKinley Springs and Phinny Hill vineyards. It was aged in 70% French oak and 30% American oak for 21 months, 50% of the oak was new.

Red WineYalumba Signature
(Barossa Valley, Australia)

Beginning with the 1962 vintage, The Signature wines of Yalumba have saluted the very best of the vintage. They also have acknowledged the skills and dedicated service of people who have enhanced the traditions and culture of Yalumba. The Cabernet Sauvignon/Shiraz blend is a distinctively Australian style, and The Signature has set the benchmark for this iconic style, drawing heavily on Yalumba’s great Barossa resource of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz vineyards. Deep and intense, the wine displays full palate weight with powerful fruit and soft American oak which was hand-coopered at Yalumba – a wine made for longevity, very much The Signature style.
