At almost $40, most of us can’t call it our “daily drinker.” Imagine if there was a bottle of wine that was designed to be very close to the style and flavor of The Prisoner, but could be had for 1/3 the price? Today we introduce that wine with our first video review.

The three C’s on our encryption wheel each represent one of the three varietal components: Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Each grape varietal adds a unique characteristic to the blend. The Zinfandel component is brimming with brambly, intense red berry flavors. Inky, intense Petite Sirah provides depth and color and concentration, while elegantly structured, silky Cabernet Sauvignon adds polish and complexity.
Blend Composition: 44% Zinfandel, 24% Petite Sirah, 23% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Other Red Varietals
Cryptic is sourced from vineyards we control and from grapes we crush from over 30 different vineyards. These vineyards are located in three distinctive growing areas: Amador County in the Sierra Foothills, the Lodi River Delta and Paso Robles in the Central Coast. Each of these areas is known for soils, climate and growing conditions that produce big, rich and bold red wine grapes. In 2010, these areas experienced a long, cool growing season, resulting in full flavor development and complexity in our grapes. Harvest took place before the fall rains and just after late summer heat spell, resulting in fully ripened grapes with even flavors.
Vineyard Sourcing: 29% Paso Robles, 26% Amador County, 24% Lodi, 21% North & Central Coast
Our winemaking team, led by Alex Cose, is known for expertise in the subtlety of winemaking and the art of blending that comes from decades of experience. After harvest, individual lots were vinified and aged separately to allow for the most selectivity at the time of blending. The wine was fermented in a combination of stainless steel tanks and small oak barrels, and aged in French and American oak for 12 to 18 months, creating toastiness and complexity.
Complex, supple and seductive, with ripe raspberry, dark blackberry and blueberry flavors, notes of toasted hazelnuts, a hint of vanilla and a touch of mocha on the finish. Our wine’s subtle toasty notes and ripe fruit flavors will be enhanced when paired with roasted or grilled meats, hearty pasta dishes, or wood-fire oven pizzas.

Dark red, almost garnet hue with bright red on the rim. Ripe cherry and cedar on the nose with hints of dried rose petal and sweet oak. Lovely entry that leads into a fat and savory mid palate. Ripe fig and black currant dominate the finish with a breadth of soft, well integrated tannins.
