Infinium is here! Sam Adams Beer Tasting December 15th

Posted by John Eckhart Posted on Dec - 06 - 2011

infiniumDear Enotecans,

Remember Infinium, the Sam Adams, Weihenstephaner collaboration beer from last year?  It’s back, and just in time for the holidays.  Beer tasting info is at the bottom of this message, so scroll down if you’re impatient for it.

Here’s what Sam Adams himself has to say:

Our brewers worked for two years with the world’s oldest brewery, Germany’s Weihenstephan, to create this unique new beer style. A groundbreaking brew, made with only the four traditional ingredients: malted barley, hops, water and yeast, Infinium™ is a crisp champagne-like beer with fine bubbles and a fruity, spicy aroma. The crisp clean malt character and delicate fruit notes in this beer are complemented by a slight citrus flavor from dry hopping with Bavarian Noble hops. Bottle conditioning adds another layer of complexity and
light spice notes.

The challenge was to create a new one-of-a-kind, champagne-style beer, while operating within the confines of Reinheitsgebot; the German Beer Purity Law dating back to 1560 which allows the use of only water, malt, hops & yeast. Using these four classic ingredients and the traditional brewing process to reach their end goal would require the brewers of Samuel Adams and Weihenstephan to innovate like never before. Combining their 1,000 years of brewing expertise and creativity, the two brewers created a groundbreaking brew that’s crisp and  champagne-like. It’s light and dry yet complex, with a sparkling effervescence.

While we’re at it…

Did you know Sam Adams just release a Small Batch Series of fantastic uber-beers?

Sam Adams Third Voyage Double IPA 22oz
This unique double IPA takes the style’s origins a step further. IPAs were born out of making an ale that could sustain a long voyage. For our take, we were inspired by the indomitable Capt. James Cook whose 3rd voyage made him the first to navigate a treacherous route from England to New Zealand to the Pacific Northwest . Using Cascade hops from each of these regions we crated a a brew that’s citrusy, earthy, and full of bold character.

Sam Adams The Vixen Chocolate Chili Bock 22oz
The Vixen is smooth and rich with an enticing touch of sweetness and ends with a spicy heat. For this unique brew we used carefully roasted malts and dark cocoa nibs for a full bodied and slightly sweet flavor. To this roast and chocolaty base we added an element or warmth and spice with cinnamon and chilies. Dark and alluring, the brew will keep you captivated. Batch #1

Sam Adams Griffins Bow Oak Aged Barleywine 22oz
From the aroma and toes of sweet honeysuckle, pineapple, and grapefruit, to richer hints of burnt sugar, and toffee, this intriguing brew is full of complex flavors. The distinct character of toasted oak adds depth and contrasts the light fruit sweetness. This unique take on a barley wine ale surprises with its smoothness and balance of fruit, hop citrus, and warmth.

Sam Adams Tasmin Red IPA 22oz
This wily red IPA gets its character from the Tasmanian hops that are full of grapefruit, pine, and earthy notes creating a bold flavor that threads throughout the taste. The hops are balanced by a core of roasty malts that give this brew body and richness with hints of toffee. This flavorful brew is rounded and smooth with a dry citrusy hop finish.

At Sam Adams we love experimenting. This series of limited edition brews represents some of our favorite small batch creations. Batch No. 1
