Great Wines … For A Song

Posted by Tom Gable Posted on Mar - 05 - 2013

for-a-song

Dear Enotecans,

We’re constantly on the search for new and fantastic wines.  We recently tasted these gems and want to share them with you.  I happen to be a fan of vinyl, collecting all sorts of interesting music on an older medium.  The labels of the For A Song wines pay homage to this authentic music medium.

I have to say For A Song Winery stands out as a quality line up for the money. I was impressed with the Melody and only stayed impressed after trying the rest.  These wines are not in stock yet, so place an order online with the links below and we will fill the order next week!

Wine Club Members get a 15% discount off retail when ordering a case of 12 total.  That can be all one wine, or a mixture that equals 12 bottles.  For example, 3 each of the wines offered below will qualify.  Learn more about the Wine Club subscription here, and if you’re a Budget Wine buyer, take note of the new Budget Wine Club.

Event Reminders:

You can always see what’s coming up at Enoteca by seeing the calendar on our left sidebar on our newly revamped Events page.  We’re gearing up for March, it’s here, it’s Spring, and we have some incredible events planned.

Great Wines … For A Song

white-wine2011 Chardonnay
(Columbia Valley)

Upon opening there is a lovely tropical nose of banana and pineapple with crisp apple, this follows through to the palate where a creamy mid palate viscosity is present. Somewhat weighty but not buttery with a clean finish of delicate acidity. A beautifully balanced Chardonnay. Not over the top and not a butter bomb. I would recommend enjoying it with Salmon Chowder. It was a fantastic pairing!

red-wine2009 “The Melody” Red Rhône Blend
(Columbia Valley)

A classically styled Grenache based Rhône blend featuring Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Counoise, and Petite Sirah as the complementary grapes. This wine had a lovely nose of crushed raspberries and spice. The first sip was silky with the revisit of raspberries and cooked cherries followed with subtle spice notes of lavender, vanilla, clove and nutmeg. Very little tannin to it ( Some would describe as bite) This bark has no bite so to speak. Supple with a delicate acidity to the finish which immediately invites another sip. Not a heavy wine and not too light. A Goldy Locks approved wine. If you like silky wines that hug you back I highly recommend the Melody.

red-wine2008 “The Score” Merlot
(Columbia Valley)

The full symphony is a blend of 80% Merlot, 10% Syrah, and 10% Cabernet Franc. Supple like it’s friend the Melody, however this wine come across a little more Bordeaux in style. Beginning with dak plums and cooked blackberries on the palate, subtle flavors of dark coffee and pipe tobacco leaf follow. Velvety at first with a medium body yet the finish has a little more acidity than the Melody. Still, on it’s own I would consider this wine supple but still with the backbone to be enjoyed with food or a good show at the end of a long day.

red-wine2009 Syrah
(Columbia Valley)

The For A Song Syrah is a rich dark wine filled with black cherry, blackberry and ripe raspberry. It is a classic Washington Syrah which leads with the full fruit notes and has a slight hint of black pepper with ample vanilla and coffee on the finish.

We harvest our Syrah in mid to late October to allow the grapes to achieve full phenolic ripeness. After a long fermentation, the wine is aged in 100% French oak for 18 months. The resultant wine is deep in color, firmly structured and soft on the palate.

Pair with Roasted pork loin, blue cheese sirloin burgers or flank steak.
