Uinta Beer Tasting

Come tonight, February 13th, starting at 4pm and going until we’re done, to the Uinta kick-off beer tasting event.

We’re tapping two special beers, a rare, limited Bourbon Barrel aged Barleywine called Cockeyed Cooper, and a fantastic IPA called Hop Notch.  We’re offering special growler fill pricing during this event only, so bring a few growlers, or buy one of the new Enoteca growlers to take home a half gallon.

Uinta Brewing Company embarked upon its mission of brewing world class, full-flavored, craft-brewed beer in the winter of 1993. From a small, renovated mechanic’s garage located in Salt Lake City, Uinta began distributing a tasty variety of beer ranging from 4.0% to over 10% alcohol by volume to local bars, restaurants, and liquor stores.

Uinta beers have received awards and medals from regional, national, and international competitions, including the North American Beer Awards, World Beer Cup, and Great American Beer Festival.

Starts at 4pm, goes as late as we still have beer, and features free tasting samples.

Midnight Sun Arctic Devil Barleywine 2013

arctic-devil-bottleRateBeer: 100

This is a truly remarkable beer.  The flavor profile is ephemeral, fully integrated malt and bourbon notes, easily a top 5 beer.  The only beer that’s like it is Firestone Walker’s Sucaba.  This is an cellarable beer, get more than you need and age some for years to come.

ABV: 13.4%
IBU: 20

Arctic Devil Barley Wine, aptly named after the ferocious wolverine of the north, is an English-style (meaning malt-inclined) barley wine. Though the recipe and process for Arctic Devil have evolved over the years, it is brewed once a year then aged in oak barrels for several months before the entire batch is blended, bottled and released. Arctic Devil is released once a year in the fall.

In its youth, Arctic Devil gnarls and snarls its way across the palate. Containing this beast of a beer for long periods in oak barrels–some having previously aged port, wine or whiskey–tames the unleashed malt and fierce hop flavors, melding and mellowing this powerful liquid into an incredible elixir worthy of a brewer’s table.

Each annual batch of Arctic Devil Barley Wine represents the brewers’ resolve to create an intriguing and sought-after barley wine by precisely brewing to well-designed specifications, carefully selecting the type and combination of barrels to use for aging, and meticulously checking the beer as it ages. Distinct nuance and complexity are contributed by the wood’s previous tenants, resulting in unique flavor profiles in each batch that continue to change over time. We invite you to savor Arctic Devil Barley Wine upon its release then cellar some for future enjoyment.

Midnight Sun’s elusive Arctic Devil Barley Wine is Alaska’s most awarded barley wine.

Regarding vintages, the last time we got Arctic Devil it was vintage dated 2011, but released in 2012.  This time, they’ve changed their system.  This was brewed in 2012 and released this month. We are calling this vintage 2013.  There is no 2012 vintage.

Woodchuck Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Aged Cider

A whiskey barrel aged cider from WoodchuckWoodchuck has chosen to line-price this cider with the rest of their ciders, which means we all get a very good deal for something unique and very tasty.  When we heard about it, we ordered every last drop available, it’s a limited release, so when it’s gone, it’s gone.

This ultra-limited cider manages to combine the sweet and crisp taste of apple cider with smoky and dry flavors of Kentucky Bourbon. Woodchuck Cider is awesome, Kentucky Bourbon is awesome. Match made in heaven? We think so.

Woodchuck Private Reserve Barrel Select is our ultra-limited cider crafted in small batches for a rare taste of sweet, crisp apple cider combined with smoky, dry bourbon flavors. Aged in genuine white oak Kentucky bourbon barrels, this copper-hued gem pairs excellently with cheese, pork roast and chocolate cake. Served best at 50 degrees, Barrel Select is truly an exclusive joy to relish.
