Posted by John Eckhart Posted on Jan - 25 - 2013

red-wineDear Enotecans,

For those who remember the variety offered by our Friday Wine Flights, we’re bringing them back in a new way.  First a few reminders about excellent wine offers in case you missed them, and a few events coming up, then more info on the Flight!

Reminders:

Upcoming Events:

Regular Wine by the Glass List

Enoteca now has a full service bar, including a regular wine by the glass list.  Come in any time, Monday-Friday, 4pm-last customer, Saturday 12-last customer for a great glass of wine and a conversation.  This list changes irregularly, we keep things on that you like and bring on new things that we think you’ll like!

Regular Wine Flight

We now have a regular full wine flight always available, Monday-Saturday and the flight changes every month or two.  Did you see the new regular wine flight?  It’s an all-Cabernet flight, featuring Cabernet Sauvignon’s from around the worldRead more on it here.

Free Flight Friday

Do you love variety?  Love trying new wine?  In addition to our regular wine flight, and our regular glass pour list, every Friday we will have a free wine tasting of 3 different wines.

Here are the details:

  • Free: No cost, come to the bar to get each taste.
  • Wine: 3 different wines tasted each week.
  • Tasting: 1/2 oz sample pours of each wine.
  • Friday: From 4pm-last customer, or until the bottle runs out.

Come on by Friday to taste some wine, and stay for a glass from our glass pour menu, or try the wine flight on the menu.  We’re opening one bottle of each wine, and when it’s gone, it’s gone.  We’ll open the bottles at 4pm each Friday, with something new each week.  These wines are not on the wine list, and are not available by the glass, only tasting.  Bottles are available to buy and take home, so you can try before you buy.

cono-sur-bicycle-rieslingThis Week: Wines of Chile

Chilean wines represent great wine making at value prices.  Check out these beauties.

Cono Sur Bicycle Riesling

(Bio Bio Valley, Chile)

Bright and appealing yellow colour with green hues. A Riesling of delicate grace and aromatic intensity. The nose is fresh and crisp, with soft flower aromas like jasmine, which combine with nice citric notes. In mouth citric flavors like grapefruit mingle with mineral hints. This Riesling is fresh and young, with great volume and pleasant acidity.

This delicate and elegant wine is a good partner for equally refined dishes: caviar, foie gras, smoked salmon, almost every single shell-fish species (shrimp, crab and lobster especially) and white meats. Less known is its predilection for vegetarian or oriental dishes, ideally Thai, and sweet or savory recipes that include fruits: prunes wrapped in bacon and apple pie for example.

Santa Alicia Gran Reserva Maipo Valley Merlot

(Maipo Valley, Chile)

Deep and intense ruby color. Complex and elegant with aromas of prunes, spices and vanilla. Round tannins, good acidity with a persistent and creamy finish. Pair with pastas, Fatty Fish or barbecued meats.

Santa Alicia Anke Blend

(Maipo Valley, Chile)

Brilliant and deep ruby red color. Complex with aromas of prunes, spices and cloves typical of French oak. Elegant and persistent tannins, with a long finish. Ideal with lamb, ribs and strong flavoured cheese.
