Dear Enotecans,

This email is about a Wine Tasting Event.  If you aren’t interested in this, you can edit your email preferences to only read about the things you do want by clicking the link in the heading of this email that says: Change Email Delivery Options (Select Which Emails You Receive)

This Friday we’re hosting Forgeron Cellars from 4-7 pm.   Don Gagne will be here to share this delicious line-up of wine and answer questions about this Walla Walla sensation.  We’ll be pouring these wines Saturday too, from 12-7 pm.   Check out all the wines we are opening up below.  Glass pours are available, or taste them all for only $10!  If you’ve never been to a wine tasting with us before, check out our What is Wine Tasting Like? page.

We want to wish luck to Melissa, whom you may have met here if you’ve stopped by in the last few months.  She’s running a marathon in Seattle this weekend.  Also good luck to wine club member Mindy who is also running!

Forgeron Marie Eve GilleWhite WineForgeron Chardonnay 2010
(Columbia Valley, Washington)

Peach and pear take center stage with this bright Chardonnay! Possessing a clean nose that kicks things off with gentle hints of oak, caramel apple, and floral perfume, it is balanced with the pretty acids of apricot, star fruit and ruby red grapefruit flavors. Exceptional Burgundian winemaking results in exceptional wine – our 2010 Chardonnay is again an extraordinary one whose richness is balanced by good acidity and light minerality. Grenache Blanc brings an intense vibrancy to the structure & body, its zesty tang punctuating the tropical fruits and tart finish. This sought-after Chardonnay is one you can and should stock up on!

96% Chardonnay, 4% Grenache Blanc

Red WineForgeron Primitivo 2009
(Stonetree Vineyard, Wahluke Slope, Washington)

Primitivo is a lesser known varietal that is closely related to the Zinfandel grape,  however the wines they produce have very distinct differences. The fruit character is less jammy, the structure is more similar to old world wines, with rustic notes of earth and spice, as well as tamed fruit flavors.

Our second vintage of Primitivo is a rich balance of elegance and power with inky black fruit and regal color. Incredible aromas of savory cinnamon, chai spice & cardamom with jammy black cherries and blackberries, braised figs and hints of white pepper. Warm and rich in the mouth with a creamy texture, the ripe dark fruit is supported by the deep structure of the wine. The body is mouth-filling and chewy with flavors of bittersweet chocolate, dried berries, pumpkin pie spice and balanced, lively acids.  With a slightly larger production than previously of only 146 cases,  this is a wine that beckons you to invite friends over for an evening on the patio while enjoying a couple of bottles of 2009 Stonetree Primitivo!

Primitivo is known as a food-friendly wine and the 2009 is no exception! With the spring and summer months upon us, hearty food for the grill is the first thing that comes to mind. We recommend Primitivo Braised Beef, grilled Burgers with Chipotle Barbeque sauce, Fennel and Sausage Risotto, grilled Drumsticks with Plum Sauce, or Roast Bass with Fennel, Tomatoes and Olives.

Red WineForgeron Cabernet Sauvignon 2008
(Columbia Valley, Washington)

Our 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon will make you go weak in the knees. Rich, dense aromas of blackberry,  boysenberry, and smoky cedar fill your senses with subtle hints of fresh espresso grounds. The intense mouth is big with spice, creamy dark chocolate, chewy black cherries, and nice acids. This wine is PURE silky satin with exceptional balance on the palate and a lingering finish.

With a wine this incredible, the next step is deciding what to pair with it. Of course, a bacon wrapped filet mignon would be awesome! However, braised lamb shank would be equally amazing.

92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% each Petit Verdot & Malbec

Red WineForgeron Blacksmith Syrah 2009
(Columbia Valley, Washington)

Blacksmith is Forgeron Cellars line of outstanding and affordable wines. To get this combination of quality and value, we source our grapes from different varieties and vineyards and then, with skillful winemaking, craft them into the highest possible quality vintages.

Our 2009 Syrah is a blend of well known vineyard sites located in unique settings throughout Washington State. Utilizing diverse locations allows us to focus on the terroir of each vineyard and bring the classic characteristics and personality of the fruit into focus. Enjoy intense aromas of boysenberries, black pepper, hyacinth and cured meat followed by mouthwatering flavors of juicy pomegranate and boysenberries. Combine this with just the right amount of spice, wonderful acidity and a long, lush finish makes this Syrah the perfect accompaniment to your favorite fall meal.

Enjoy with classic Boeuf Bourguignon, hearty soup, Meat Lover’s Pizza or Indian curry stew.

White WineForgeron Late Harvest Riesling 2010
(Columbia Valley, Washington)

Our first Late Harvest Riesling with natural Botrytis (aka “Noble Rot”) has proven to be worth the hard work and dedication. Using grapes from the Dionysus Vineyard near Pasco overlooking the Columbia River, the naturally-occurring, beneficial mold Botrytis brings rich, unique, concentrated scents and flavors to this Riesling.

The nose on this gorgeous wine opens with the classic aromas of caramel, apricot syrup and honey with nuances of mandarin oranges and pear. Once in the mouth, you experience how complex this wine is with flavors of ambrosia and lychee laced with white peach, apricot, cinnamon, Bosch pears and a full, rich, viscous mouth-feel along with a lingering finish that refuses to end!

Our 2010 Late Harvest Riesling would be the perfect accompaniment to a cheese course with Stilton, Rogue River Blue, Dolce de Bourgogne Triple Creme, Marcona almonds and macadamia nuts. For those of you who appreciate the beauty of a dessert wine, try it with apple tarte tartin, pear crisp, or classic crème Brulée. Of course, you can also enjoy it simply as dessert in a glass as it is perfectly satisfying all by itself.
