white-wineValentin Bianchi Elsa Torrontes
(Mendoza, Argentina)

Torrontes (say: toe ron tess) is a wine of pleasing fruit intensity both in the nose and on the palate. Well-integrated scents of grapefruit, spice, orange blossom and apple are apparent. On the palate, one immediately enjoys the crisp, refreshing mouthfeel with flavors similar to the aromas and a clean, bright finish.

Valentin Bianchi’s Torrontes grapes come from the Estate’s Dona Elsa Vineyards, which is situated in Rama Caida, San Rafael, Mendoza, at around 760 meters above sea level. This is one of the coolest areas in San Rafael. Hand-picked and twice sorted by hand, the Torrontes grapes are crushed and fermented over ten days at controlled temperatures of 15 degrees Celsius in stainless steel tanks.

100% Torrontes
Red WineTinto Negro Malbec
(Mendoza, Argentina)

TintoNegro, meaning “black wine” in Spanish, is meant to celebrate the essence of Malbec in Mendoza. Known for its dark, blackish color, Malbec is definitely a Tinto Negro.

Sourced from Mendoza’s Primera Zona of Maipu and Lujan de Cuyo the Mendoza blend is meant to showcase the exceptional value and approachable profile of Malbec. The wine’s soft, drinkable style is accompanied by light oak aging for additional complexity.

100% Malbec

Vintage Club

white-wineCloudline Pinot Gris
(Willamette Valley, Oregon)

The Pinot Gris (say: pee noh gree), which has been previously highlighted in Food & Wine Magazine, is vinified under the careful eye of consulting winemaker Véronique Drouhin-Boss. It’s made in a classic dry style with a lovely balance of ripe fruit and vibrant acidity. It is bottled under screw cap and arrives just in time for summer.

The wine suggests food pairings with every sip. Try it with most shellfish, cheeses, ceviche, sushi, and spicy cuisine, such as Thai and Indian.

Cloudline’s Pinot Gris is tank-fermented to emphasize the varietal’s freshness, acidity and floral aromatics. Citrus fruits and white flowers are abundant on both the palate and nose. The fine texture matches the light yellow hue.

100% Pinot Gris
rhiannon-wine
Red WineRutherford Ranch Rhiannon
(California)

The Goddess Rhiannon is a figure of power and mystery in Celtic mythology, associated with magical birds and horses and the contrasting qualities of change and steadfastness.

Crafting a distinctive blend, likewise, balances change and steadfastness: the uniqueness of each harvest must consistently express the winemaker’s personal vision.

Divine Flavors of Bing Cherry, sweet raspberry and vanilla.

Reserve Club

white-wineNovelty Hill Roussanne
(Stillwater Creek Vineyard, Columbia Valley, Washington)

Our 2010 Roussanne (say: roo saan) offers inviting floral aromas with a juicy mouthful of fresh pear, a hint of minerality and just the right touch of acidity. Mouth-filling on the palate, the finish is long and expressive.

100% Roussanne

Red WineOrin Swift Locations I Italian Red
(Puglia, Italy)

Revealing an attractive color spectrum of crimson and scarlet with a slight magenta band on the rim, the wine explodes with aromas of macerated raspberries, dried lavender, plum tart, and toasty oak accents. The palate is immediately hit with super lusch flavors of ripe berries and spice, supported with a dense core that has just the right amount of characteristic acidity. The tannins are already velvety and soft which provide for a lingering finish with hints of minerality and some herbal notes.

Negroamaro, Nero d’Avola, Barbera, and native varieties from Puglia

Premier Club

white-wineCristom Viognier
(Eola-Amity Hills, Oregon)

Cristom’s 2011 Viognier (say: vee ohn yay) seems to want to be Riesling, given its apple blossom and honeysuckle aromatics and bright fresh lime, apple and pear palate strongly marked by tart fruit skin. To be sure, I believe I discern some more varietal-typical acacia in that aroma, too, and there is also a touch of schmaltz or oiliness – bright juiciness notwithstanding – to the wine’s texture, as well as white pepper and cress impingements in the finish. Ok, so Viognier it is, then; but what a blazingly bright one, whose finish leaves a saline and citric trail as much as it does the memory of invigoratingly incisive cress and pepper. This fine value is apt to be worth following through at least 2016.

orin-swift-abstract
Red WineOrin Swift Abstract
(California)

Abstract is a blend of Napa, Sonoma, and Mendocino Grenache, Petite Sirah, and Syrah primarily from hillside vineyards.

Inky blue-purple in complexion, the wine bursts with a perfume of dark fruit, sage, acacia flowers, kirsch, and a hint of California chaparral. Voluptuous in texture, the wine is remarkably fresh on the palate with ripe blackberry, mulberry, roasted plum, black tea, and bitter chocolate. A sweet and soft tannin profile rounds out the finish, which lingers elegantly.

Anniversary Club Red

Red Wine Charles Smith Stoneridge Vineyard Badge Cabernet Sauvignon
(Stoneridge Vineyard, Columbia Valley, Washington)

This wine is full, rich and very complex. Black currant, pencil lead, warm earth permeates the nose as well as the palate of this compelling wine. Pure and uncompromised, single vineyard 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. —Charles Smith

It’s critical to allow this wine an hour or two to open up in a decanter. It’s huge and packed with flavors, and goes well with food. Look for blackberry, raspberry, orange peel, violet, and coconut aromas, and chocolate, cola, caramel, vanilla on the palate and fruits and berries on the finish.

100% Cabernet Sauvignon

Fine BeerWells Sticky Toffee Pudding Ale
(England)

Based on the Great British pudding, full of rich sticky toffee-ness.

Created by the Master Brewers behind Banana Bread Beer and Double Chocolate Stout, Wells & Young’s new beer is based on the quintessentially British dessert Sticky Toffee Pudding. The 5% ABV beer is brewed using natural accredited mineral water and the finest ingredients to combine the rich flavours of Sticky Toffee Pudding with traditional ale to create an indulgent beer.
wells-sticky-toffee-4pk
Karl Ottomar, Head Brewer at Wells & Young’s explains: “Our dessert ales have been a huge hit across the world and we wanted to add a new, unique flavour into the mix. Sticky Toffee Pudding Ale was a natural fit, combining a quintessentially British pudding with our brewing expertise to create a rich, smooth beer with all the warmth and aromas of a dessert but without being overly sweet.

“This is very much a beer first and a dessert second, it is brewed with our trusted pale ale malt and a secret blend of complex sugars. The initial sweetness of Sticky Toffee Pudding Ale is tempered by a gentle bitterness from two of England’s most traditional hop varieties- Fuggles and Goldings. This delivers the sweet taste of caramel and toffee along with a smooth and robust aftertaste”.

Fine BeerGoose Island Lolita Sour 2013
(Chicago, Illinois)

You might think this is a Russian style girly beer (a little Nabokov for you), but instead it is a very sophisticated Raspberry Belgian Ale. Fermented with brettanomyces (the little guys who give us that tart zing) and fresh raspberries, this brew is bright yet deep with spices and edges of the fruits natural tart quality to give it a white wine kind of finish.

fernet-bottle-glass

beerOdell Fernet Imperial Porter
(Fort Collins, Colorado)

Fernet is one of my favorite liquor products, when I heard Odell aged a porter in Fernet barrels, gotta say I was pretty excited. We have this on tap right now in the Drinkery & Refuge, it’s a truly unique beer experience. If you’ve never had Fernet before, I recommend ordering it straight or in our “Fernet The Ginger” cocktail when you order a glass of the beer. Sure you’ll be double fisting it, but the unique flavor experience deserves the attention.

Over the past year, we’ve collected empty Fernet Barrels from our friends at Leopold Bros. Distillery. Their distinct Fernet includes lavender, honeysuckle, ginger root, bitter aloe, dandelion root, rose petals, chamomile, and pepper. Inspired by the herb & spice flavors of this dark minty liqueur, we promptly filled the barrels with a rich porter. The roasty chocolate malt character is infused with hints of mint and licorice from the herb-soaked oak, creating a decadent flavor and aroma.
