Posted by Enoteca Fine Wine & Beer Posted on Aug - 03 - 2012

Dear Enotecans,

This email is about the August 2012 Wine & Beer of the Month Club selections, with tasting notes and technical details about what is going in your Bin. Please notice the opportunity to set your communication preferences. Look in the heading of this email, there’s a link that says this: Did you know you can dial in your email preferences here? That link is in every email, and it gives you the chance to decide which types of communication you want from us. Want to know what each of the options means? Here are the details. Feel free to reply to this email and share your thoughts, we love hearing from you!

The Bins have moved and changed

Big thanks to Post Falls’ own Aagesen Millworks for the fantastic work and precision craftsmanship on the new Bins! We now have 960 Bins to fill, quite a bit more than our old over-loaded system. Now it’s time for you to sign up for Wine and/or Beer of the Month Club, featuring getting your own Bin, right away! When you come in to pick up, don’t hesitate to ask for help, the new location and Bins may take some getting used to.

Not in the Wine or Beer of the Month Club yet? Drop us a line and ask about why you should be.

Fresh Beverages and Events at Enoteca!

You can always see What’s On Tap? and New Beers In Stock! Laughing Dog Devil Dog on tap?!  Yes please. Samuel Adams Chocolate Bock!  Wow!  Want to get a text message when we tap a new beer? Sign up here.

We’re running a special price on Stone Imperial Russian Stout: $4 pints and $15.99 / $14.39 for growlers until it’s gone.

Thursday, August 16th at 5pm and 7pm we’re hosting Laura Stoudt from Pike Brewing of Seattle, Washington for a beer tasting. Full details will be emailed soon, but you can pick up tickets now! Hint: The Upcoming Beer Tastings page is always a good one to check to be in the loop.

What’s on Tap? How Do I Find Out Instantly?

We now have 7 tap handles to put great beer on, mostly for your Growler-filling needs, but also flights and pints. You can always visit our website at www.corkjoy.com and go to Craft Beer > What’s On Tap? to see what your next growler full of beer will be.

Enoteca is implementing a new Text Message (SMS) system to be used only for one purpose: Notifying you when a new beer is tapped. So many people ask us to call them when something special gets tapped, and we simply don’t have the manpower to do it. With an automated system, however, we can tell the computer to do it, and badda-bing-badda-boom, you will be the first to know! Click here to sign up.

The wine and beer for this month’s Club has arrived and will be in your Bin on Friday!

If you’re not a Club Member yet, learn about the Wine & Beer Club?  It’s a great way to learn more about wine and craft beer, and have your experience expanded.  If you’re a novice to wine, the Wine of the Month Club will expose you to all sorts of tasty bottles and you’ll be an expert in no time!  If you’re more of a wine connoisseur, try the higher end club selections to automatically own highly recommended bottles.

Wine & Beer Club is rolling out this Friday, and tasting is from 4-7 Friday. We will be tasting Saturday from 12-7 as well, which is a great time to taste wine to beat the rush. The cost is $10 per flight (3 oz. each of 3 wines – red or white).

August Wine Club: For the hot summer months we chose reds that are lighter bodied while still being full flavored, so to me that means Pinot Noir and Syrah!  We have them from California and Washington in the Club selections.  For the whites we went with some super delicious wines that will just all jump out at you as great wines to drink, chilled, on the deck in the cool of the evening.

And without further adieu here’s the lineup for Club and Tasting:

Vintage Club

White WineTerra Blanca Arch Terrace Viognier
(Yakima Valley, Washington)

A sweet perfume of apricots and peaches radiates from the glass and opens up to the refreshing, crisp flavors of fresh apricot and peach. Softer hints of walnut and spice preside over a touch of white pear. Blending small amounts of Roussanne and Marsanne add broader flavors as well as more depth and complexity to the wine.

89% Viognier,10% Roussanne, 1% Marsanne

Red WineTerra Blanca Arch Terrace Syrah
(Red Mountain, Washington)

The quickest way to describe this wine is to say it is fruit forward with hints of smoke.  Aromas of blueberry, tobacco, smoked meat and dark cherry.  A core of sweet ripe red and black fruits leads into a finish of sour cherry, cedar and smoke that lingers on the palate.

99% Syrah, 1% Roussanne

Reserve Club

White WineTwo Mountain Chardonnay
(Yakima Valley, Washington)

A classic Chardonnay with aromas of caramelized banana and vanilla, followed by a palate of toasty butterscotch and overripe pear with a lingering finish.

100% Chardonnay

Red WineBelle Glos Meomi Pinot Noir
(California)

Very dark, almost purple hue. Aromas of sweet cream, berries, sarsaparilla, and oak spices. The first entry encases the mouth with a velvety richness…almost unctuous, but the acidity enlivens the weight and pops the flavors. This wine hits full force with cola, dark berries, earthy notes and smoked meat. An extremely layered wine both in structure and flavor. These layers emerge independently, and then refocus, allowing the supple tannins to carry the wine through to a lingering, succulent finish.

Meiomi is a high style Pinot Noir that is shaped, more than anything else, by the fruit sources that lay the foundation of the blend.  A pure bred enjoyment wine, built to accommodate any pairing from food to friends.  Unifying California’s most noteworthy coastal areas opens the door for a dynamic and opulent wine that is ready to enjoy whenever you are.

Joseph J. Wagner is a fifth-generation winemaker from a family with farming and winemaking roots in the Napa Valley since the 1880’s. In his youth, he worked many spring and summer days in the vineyard and cellar of Caymus, learning the basics from pulling leaves, to dragging hoses. Then he began to focus his efforts on what was to become his passion and career in the wine business. He is the owner of Belle Glos and Meiomi wines and has been overseeing vineyard operations and winemaking since 2002. Joseph has a perpetual goal of crafting Pinot Noirs that exude their origins and represent the best of their class in any vintage. Along with his passion for Pinot Noir, he continues his role at Caymus in viticulture and winemaking alongside his father, Chuck. When not at work, he spends time with his wife and 4 children constantly grooming the next generation in farming philosophy and practices, winemaking and the enjoyment of nature’s bounty and the outdoors.

100% Pinot Noir
57% Monterey County, 23% Santa Barbara County, 20% from Sonoma County

Premier Club

White WineSignorello Seta
(Napa Valley, California)

“Seta” is Italian for silk, which appropriately describes this lush silky blend of 60% Semillon and 40% Sauvignon Blanc sourced from low-yielding vines on the Silverado Trail in the Oak Knoll district.

This full bodied wine with a spicy nose offers hints of melon, nectarine and passion fruit balanced by rich vanilla and mineral overtones. The complexity of this unique blend allows it to be versatile with a variety of foods. Drinkability: 2011-2018.

The wine was 100% barrel-fermented to enhance the fruit’s unusually rich and complex flavors. After whole-cluster pressing, the juice was racked into 22% new French oak barrels for primary fermentation induced by native yeasts. The entire lot remained on the lees for 7 months before racking, blending and bottling. This wine did not go through malolactic fermentation. Oak types: Allier, Vosges, and Troncais.

60% Semillon, 40% Sauvignon Blanc

Red WineTagaris Syrah
(Arete and Alice Vineyards, Columbia Valley, Washington)

Aromas of ripe raspberries and blueberries with hints of uncrushed black and red peppercorns, bright raspberry fruit rounds out with undertones of plum, black tea, and cedar finishes with hints of black pepper spice and cognac.
The blending in of some Mourvedre (say: moor-vay-drah) lightens the body of this Syrah while simultaneously lifting the flavor profile with more complexity.  Decant it for a while to bring out all the flavors, spend some time with it, you’ll be rewarded.
84% Syrah, 16% Mourvedre

Anniversary Club Red

Red WineElk Cove Mount Richmond Pinot Noir
(Willamette Valley, Oregon)

Expressive nose displays spicy cherry, redcurrant and cola scents. The palate shows good concentration and focus, with spicy black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors firmed by tangy acidity.

This vineyard site was purchased in 1996 in partnership between Adam and his wife Carrie, and parents Pat and Joe Campbell. The motivation for planting this vineyard was to emulate the wine quality from sites such as our esteemed Roosevelt vineyard. This site now holds the honor as the largest vineyard holding of ECV totaling 105 acres. Mount Richmond sits at 300-500 feet elevation, lower than the vineyards planted at the winery, which allows for earlier ripening. Planted in a high-density format (2100 vpa), similar to Roosevelt, it sits in rolling hills just outside the town of Yamhill in the shadow of the Pacific Northwest’s Coast Range. The plant material sourced for Mount Richmond now includes both the Old
Vine Pommard selection, planted from select cuttings off of Roosevelt Vineyard, and also equal parts of Dijon clone 115 and 777. This vineyard
sits on Willakenzie soils and is in the heart of the Yamhill-Carlton AVA.

Vintage 2010 brings to mind some catchy phrases. The year of the birds – Hitchcock style, let ‘em hang and our favorite, and slogan for the vintage – “Hang ‘10”! Yes, harvest was later than normal. An exceptional cold, wet spring followed by what many seasoned producers recall as one of the shortest summers. However, 2010 was not the worst of years.  The ‘attack of our feathered friends,’ whose almost unprecedented assault on valley fruit, also indicated nature’s signal that the fruit was ripe and grapes good indeed. Winemaker, Adam Campbell, comments in response to vintage nervousness, “you know, we have been doing this for almost  40 years, and it’s not the first time we’ve had slow ripening.  We’re optimistic about it and we know exactly what to do.” Even science agrees. Climatologists show similarities to the great 2008 vintage; reporting lower yields, small berries and full flavor development at lower brix levels – all signs pointing to high quality wines with lower alcohols.

100% Pinot Noir
