Barleywines are incredible high octane beers that are designed to cellar and improve with age, just like wine. Now that we have some real winter on our hands, it’s time to launch the First Annual Enoteca Strong Liver Barleywine Tour. We’ve cellared several kegs of Barleywines and Old Ale’s, and we’ll be putting them on tap starting this Friday, January 31st. The Tour list of beers is found below.

Strong-Liver-Guy-InverseDo You Have A Strong Liver?

This incredible beer event is competitive! If you drink at least 12 of the Barleywines we put on tap, you will qualify for a special Strong Liver Barleywine Tour Survivor T-Shirt! Your standings will be posted at Enoteca Drinkery & Refuge, updated every couple of days, and on our website. To begin the Tour just order your first Barleywine under your name and we’ll keep track.

How strong is your liver? We’ll post standings including the Most Barleywines during this Tour, on tap by the glass only. The person who drinks the most by March 1st wins a free growler fill, an instant bottled Barleywine cellar, and the title of Strong Liver 2014. The person who comes in second gets a free growler fill. We’re spacing this out over a month so please drink responsibly.

What’s A Barleywine Tour?

It’s like a concert tour, only it’s Beer! Starting January 31st we’re dedicating no less than two tap handles to always have Big Bold Strong Barleywines, and at times we’ll have more, until we get through them all! The kick off event is January 31st, but it’s not just a one time thing, the TOUR continues until we’ve played them all out. We expect it to last through the month of February. You can peruse the Tour Stops below, featuring each beer, vintage, and ABV (alcohol percentage by volume) and IBUs (international bitterness units). The lower IBUs, below 40 or 50, are maltier, English style beers, whereas the higher IBUs, 60 on up, have higher alpha acid hops going in. One of the fun features of Cellared Barleywines is the alpha acids have curbed off a bit, so even a high IBU Barleywine, after a few years, will be smoother! This is a unique and special opportunity that you won’t see everywhere or often.
