Joel Gott Wine Tasting this weekend
Start the weekend out right at Enoteca – Fine Wine & Beer!
This Friday from 12-7 Enoteca will be sharing a selection of Joel Gott wines. Gott Wine? We do, and Kevin Olsonberg from Odom will be on hand to share it. We’ll be tasting these wines Saturday from 12-7 as well, which is a great time to beat the rush!
We want to give you the opportunity to “try before you buy” so we offer a flight of wine for a low cost. Taste a flight (2 oz. each of 4 wines) for $10 per flight, and follow up with a glass.
(California)
WHAT: The careful selection of grapes from vineyards in Monterey, Napa and Lake Counties comes to fruition in our 2008 California Sauvignon Blanc, a complex, structured blend which balances fruit and acidity.
WHERE: The cool, coastal vineyards of Monterey allow the grapes to mature slowly and develop intense citrus flavors with crisp minerality. Combined with richer, more complex grapes from the sun-drenched Napa Valley, the blend evolves into a more structured, balanced wine. Grapes from Lake County enhance the wine’s acidity and heighten its tropical flavors. Together, these locales produce a wine with aromas of guava, watermelon, Meyer lemon and a long, juicy finish.
WHY: Aging this well-balanced Sauvignon Blanc in stainless steel preserves the intense fruit aromas and flavors without the cloaking presence of malolactic fermentation. The screw cap enclosure and the UV safe green glass package ensure that our wine maintains freshness throughout its life. Put simply, this is one of our favorite wines to drink regardless of season or spread; it is bright and crisp year round.
(California)
WHAT: Our Monterey Chardonnay is fermented in stainless steel, keeping the wine clean and crisp—just like our favorite Chablis.
WHERE: The cool, breezy weather of Monterey Bay allows for a longer period of maturation which allows the grapes more time to develop classic varietal characteristics. The climate produces a Chardonnay with aromas of orange blossom, green apple, and citrus and with a bright acid structure.
WHY: The vineyards of Monterey consistently provide ideal fruit and exemplify our winemaking goal: a natural balance between sugar and acidity. Because of the low yields from this vintage, the fruit had intensified aromas and flavors, creating a more full-bodied, weighty wine.
(California)
WHAT: The 2007 California Cabernet Sauvignon blends grapes from our favorite appellations resulting in an elegant, luscious wine.
WHERE: Fruit is sourced from Napa Valley, the Mendocino coast, Paso Robles and Lake County. Together, these appellations create a balanced, structured wine with supple tannins, bright acidity and flavors of spicy red fruit and rich black fruit that are intensified by aromas of currants, cedar and black tea.
WHY: Our 815 Cabernet is named for the August 15th birth of our daughter Lucy during the 2003 harvest.
(California)
WHAT: Our 2007 California Zinfandel balances rich and graceful flavors characteristic of each region farmed.
WHERE: Dry-farmed, old-head-trained vines in Lodi and Amador produce intense, structured fruit while the Napa Valley harvest adds power, depth and complexity. Fruit from the cooler climate of Sonoma County offers classic Zinfandel aromatics of pepper and anise. Together, these diverse regions produce a Zinfandel packed with flavors of licorice, plums, Bing cherries and blackberries with a deep, long finish.
WHY: Joel became fascinated with Zinfandel in 1996 and we all find Zinfandel as irresistible today as he did then. Spicy, juicy, brash and elegant Zinfandel continues to be as enjoyable and interesting to make as it is to drink.
Saketini Tasting Review
Sarah:
Sushi and Saketini night was a great success! Thanks to everyone who came and thanks to
Hannah for the fabulous sushi! The saketinis were so fun to make ( and drink). I think
Debbie particularly enjoyed being the mad scientist and experimented on us with her new
concoction Domo Arigato Debbie! Most of the people who came where cautious and some came
alone having friends who were not about to try “japanese fire water”! Well, we tried to
put at ease those misconceptions and I think we succeeded . Sake can be a softer more
approachable version of vodka and you can have more of it since the alcohol levels are
much lower. Over the course of the event we learned new things about sake, sushi and
Debbie told some great jokes! Over all a fabulous evening! If you couldn’t make it this
time keep a look out in upcoming newsletters for more events filled with laughs,
education, tomfoolery, merriment and well…. wine, beer and everything in between!
Kampai,
Sarah

Remember the Orphans – 20% Off Tasty Wine
What is the Orphan Shelf? It’s our fun way of closing out wine & beer to make way for the new stuff.
It’s located right at the checkout counter, and we offer a 20% discount on these products to
our Wine & Beer of the Month Club Members.
Why are products orphaned? Well, basically they are forgotten. Selling great one week and yesterdays news the next. Forgotten greats that need a home. Maybe the label isn’t show stopping or it’s from an area people are not familiar with so it just sits quietly, patently waiting to be adopted. Open your heat and mind these are really great wines!
The orphan shelf has had some recent admittants. Several bottles of wine were discovered that have been waiting for a home, and some beer has even migrated to the orphan shelf. Club members receive a 20% discount whenever they adopt an orphan. Find it in your heart.
A wide range of very delicious bottles are currently up for adoption. Come peer into the glassed-over eyeballs of these little fellas and see if one of them doesn’t tug at your heart. Pleeeze sir, can I have some more?

Here’s Certified Sommelier Michael Williams’ description of what to expect:
For hundreds of years, the world has coveted and paid staggering prices for the great wines of France. As a result, regions like Bordeaux, Burgundy, Rhone, and Champagne have imprinted themselves on a wider consciousness than just the wine world. This has created a pervasive belief that great French wine is expensive. Come find out why this is not true while enjoying some fabulous (and affordable) French wines in a fun, relaxed environment. Learn about regions such as Beaujolais (the truth, not the “nouveau”) and Alsace while discovering some hidden treasures from the heavy-hitting Bordeaux region. Allow Michael Williams, Certified Sommelier, to help you turn up your nose at snobbery by introducing you to the rich winemaking traditions of France you can enjoy without jeopardizing your retirement.$10 per person, Reserve your tickets early.

David Landis represents the premium marquee brand of Pahlmeyer, a cult status winery from Napa Valley. Consulting is done by Michel Rolland, winemaker of Long Shadows Pedestal Merlot, Ornellaia, and more.
The first wine out of Pahlmeyer earned 94 points from the renowned Robert Parker, shocking wine connoisseurs and critics nationwide. The concept is “Bordeaux in California” and he seems to be succeeding.

Does the glass you’re drinking from really matter? We believe it does, and that’s why we only use genuine Riedel stemware at Enoteca tasting events. Ever have a wine that tasted great in the restaurant or tasting room, but seemed to fall flat at home? Inappropriate stemware is the most likely culprit.
This event will be unlike any other we have held. The ticket price will include a personal set of your own stemware, each designed for a different type of wine. At this event we will demonstrate by tasting the quality of the beverage experience in each type of glass.
An expert in stemware from Riedel will be on hand to share the story of how these were developed, and to educate on proper stemware use. This promises to be a fun and rewarding experience!
As soon as we have a cost we will announce it here, Reserve your tickets early.
Thursday, February 18th – 5 & 7 pm [$10 flight, classroom]

We’ll be holding 2 tastings, one at 5 and one at 7 pm. $10 per person, reserve your tickets early! (be sure to specify 5 or 7 pm)
