Mischevious Wine Tasting
- Can you recommend wine and/or beer to me once a month?
- How is wine tasting at Enoteca different?
Russell Said Beer, Sarah Said Wine
Sarah:
Is everybody ready for Halloween? I’m putting the finishing touches on our costumes
but you got to show up for our Halloween Bash at Enoteca to see what we are! We’ll
have treats and a wicked good door prize, so show up on Saturday to enter. And at
the very least it’ll be a show, seeing Russell and I try to serve wine in our elaborate
get-ups.
Russell:
Am I ready for Halloween? I was just looking at some of my costume pieces that Sarah
put together and WOW, I am going to look gooood! That reminds me, there are a few
great wines and beers that could be considered “themed” for the holiday. Consider picking
these (or other treats) up for your parties:
- Wychwood Hobgoblin Beer
- Witches Brew – Belgian Golden
- Beer Valley Black Flag – Pirate Flag Label
- Pure Evil Cabernet Sauvignon
Sarah:
This weekend we are focusing on BIG, juicy reds, a sparkling white and a lush port to
round everything out. Fall is quickly passing and making way for winter. It snowed this
morning people! And Halloween isn’t even here! So as with the cuisine of comfort here so
must the wine be.
Stuff about the line up…..
I’m really looking forward to trying this line up. Especially the Monster! Out of Italy comes this huge hitter that will knock you out! I tried it amongst hundreds of wines at a trade show and it stood head and shoulders above many contenders. Come try it Friday and Saturday.
Russell:
The Monster is a big wine. Shhh, don’t tell anyone, this is a preview of our Anniversary Red
coming out in Wine Club next week. We just felt that something nicknamed “The Monster” deserved
a Halloween showing.
We sure had fun last week with our Guess the Grape tasting! The big shocker was something I wanted to show people, Gundlach Bundschu Merlot. I learned about it from Sarah’s mom, and got a bottle to try. Turns out she was right, it’s a highly fantastic bottle of wine. In the blind tasting, most people thought it was the Cabernet, most people thought it was from Washington, and most people thought it was really expensive! Turns out it’s a California Merlot that’s just over $30 a bottle. For a big and serious Merlot, it fits the bill!
Sarah:
I get lots of questions about Thanksgiving wines. What goes well with the traditional
meal? What is new and exciting? What can I serve before during and after the big meal?
What can I serve on a budget?
Well, I have an answer. On Thursday November 12th I’ll be holding a Thanksgiving wine class. I’ll serve small plates of Thanksgiving fare and pair it with quality wines that are a wide range of what everybody asks for. Some will be cost effective, some will be unique to tradition, they will ALL rock! And after the tasting this line up will be available for quick and easy shopping! This event will be a great way for you to experience the wine and food together so that you don’t have to experiment or take a risk on Thanksgiving day. Email me if you have interest in attending.
Russell:
Some of our seasonal favorites are back and ready to roll. Pasek Cranberry Wine, made from
100% Cranberries, is a great “off the beaten path” beverage for the holidays. Gluhwein,
a traditional German wine served hot, is also available now, and we are firing up the crockpot
to serve samples at Enoteca all winter long! We’re also serving samples of the Cranberry any
time you come in!
By the way, last night’s Grand Teton beer tasting was fantastic. Some of the attendees comments on Facebook include:
“Amazing tasting my friend! AMAZING.”
“I thoroughly enjoyed myself.”
Mischevious Wine Tasting this Weekend
Start the weekend out right at Enoteca – Fine Wine & Beer!
This Friday from 4-7 Enoteca will be sharing a selection of Mischevious wines, delicious and tasty selections for the holiday! We’ll be tasting these wines Saturday from 12-7 as well, and having a Costume Halloween Party!
We want to give you the opportunity to “try before you buy” so we offer a flight of wine for a low cost. Taste a flight (2 oz. each of 5 wines) for $10 per flight, and follow up with a glass.
(Asti, Italy)
We had this fantastically balanced Moscato di Asti at a recent dinner party. It’s nice because it’s not overly sweet, although it has a hint of sweetness, and the honey, honeydew, and floral flavors are just light and fantastic! After the dinner party (thank you Addy for the wine, thanks Lauren for the party!) we had to get this and share it with you!
(Lodi, California)
Bright purple colored, exhibits an attractive nose of spice box, white pepper, Crème de cassis, black cherry and cedar. Leading to a medium to full bodied, ripe and supple-textured concentrated wine full of fruit and spicy character. The tannins provide just enough structure to balance out the beam of layered black fruits and carry it to a pleasing, well-rounded finish. Should have several years cellaring potential but difficult to resist drinking now for it’s pure pleasure.
55% Carignane, 35% Tempranillo, 10% Grenache
(Lodi, California)
It has reappeared… Three distinctive varietals combine lush berry and fierce spice into a wine characterized by its incandescence. Deeply luscious and succulent blackberries ignite this vintage of our rich ruby apparition. Aromas of anise and sweet fig are embraced by touches of black pepper. From the shadowed dark depths, subtle notes of cloves and vanilla emerge and compliment the concentrated fruit characters of this wine. Captured in 1, 2 and 3 year old American oak barrels, this wine showcases the best these distinct varietals have to offer. Though this wine is remarkable now, age in the bottle will only integrate the three unique varietals more. Welcome the winery ghost into your home again with this latest vintage, and enjoy with full-flavored and hearty meals…before it vanishes again.
49% Petite Sirah, 49% Zinfandel, 2% Mourvèdre
(Puglia, Italy)
The Monster is a blend of Negroamaro, which is a grape whose name translates to “the blackest of the blacks” and Primitivo, which is genetically the same as red Zinfandel. Yes, the vintage, 1997, is correct. This wine was aged on oak barrels for 7 years before it was bottles. That’s 84 months.
We tried it at a recent trade tasting in Seattle and oh boy is it a Monster! It will be featured in the Anniversary Red wine club for November, but we figured a preview would be OK, since it is The Monster and it is Halloween!
(Madera, California)
We quote the experts:
“Wine of the Year, Ficklin Vineyards Tinta Port… the one California wine that has pleased my palate consistently for the 30-some years I’ve been a serious wine fancier.” “Spicy, dark, ripe plum fruit flavor, with the beginning of complexity  perfectly balanced fruit, to sweetness, to alcohol… I really don’t think you can buy a more satisfying bottle of Port anywhere for less money.”
- Jerry Mead, “Mead on Wine”
