Iron Horse Beer Tasting
- Can you recommend wine and/or beer to me once a month?
- How is wine tasting at Enoteca different?
Russell Said Beer, Sarah Said Wine
Sarah:
I’m so excited to see Greg tomorrow from Iron Horse! The last time we saw him he had the funniest stories
about his kids. Also, we have had the pleasure of seeing his beers become some of the most locally loved
over the course of a year. Word has spread fast because his beer is that good!
Russell:
It helps that Greg put Irish Death in bottles, and now he’s created Mocha Death! We have a few recent
openings for the 7 pm tasting and a couple handfuls open for the 5 pm tasting, so RSVP and come on down to taste.
Which reminds me, besides the 3 beer tastings in October, we’re running a special promotion for people
who read this email. It’s a free beer glass (your choice) with $20 of beer. We have glassware from a
multitude of breweries, and we prefer to drink gourmet beer from it’s proper glassware.
Friday we are putting on a wine tasting with Small Vineyards Italian Imports wines. The list and notes
are below, it’s one not to miss.
Sarah:
The Terre Del Grico Salice Salentino has been a staple around this wine shop since day one for me.
It was one of the first wines I ever picked for club and if you have or will try it, you’ll soon see
why. It’s a great classic italian, much like Sofia Lauren. Nice dried fruit and herb on the front
palette then it moves into some spice and classic italian terroir. I could drink this wine with a
simple brochetta or a rustic lamb stew or even an italian meat and cheese plate. This wine goes great
with all food but also stands alone without being harsh and crazy tannic. Try it people, I can’t say
enough about this wine!
Russell:
It’s delicious, I’ll admit it. One thing you’ll notice if you’ve been to a wine tasting recently is we
always have some sort of “bonus round.” Last weekend the bonus wine was an Italian wine unlike any of
the Washington wines we were pouring, and it caught people by suprise. A few weeks back we had a bonus
of a really high end Cabernet from Napa Valley called Amizetta Vigneto del Tacchino Selvatico Cabernet
Sauvignon. You had to be there, it’s from the Vineyard of the Wild Turkey. Seriously. Anyway, I am
looking forward to the bonus round this weekend, we usually only have one or two bottles available,
so you have to show up early and often to try it! Well, last Saturday after wine tasting I walked
home from Enoteca and picked up a hitch-hiker. His name is Skadoosh and the full story is on Facebook.
You can add me as a friend and while you’re at it, join the Enoteca FB group, where we announce tastings
and tasting notes. Man, I’m sure in the mood for a party, good thing too, it’s the season!
Sarah:
I’m really glad Skadoosh adopted us! He fits in to this family perfectly. YAY, I’m so excited, Enoteca
is throwing a Halloween party! I have been using every creative bone in my body to
create two super awesome costumes for Russell and I. What are we going to be? Well, you’ll just have to
show up to find out. Ok, I’ll give you one clue becuase I’m nice. Opposties attract. It’s on Saturday Halloween night.
We will have some
treats and good spirits of course! So come on by and celebrate with us!
Russell:
Halloween starts it off, and this year we’ve made plans to celebrate. The day after Thanksgiving, black
Friday as it’s known, we’ll be helping to kick off the holiday spirit with an early-bird special. Watch
your email for details as the event gets closer. In the month of December we’ll be open 7 days a week to
accomodate holiday shopping and party supplies, and we’ll be closed for Christmas day through the 28th.
Small Vineyards Italian Wine Tasting
Check out the wines we plan on pouring this Friday from 4-7 and Saturday from 12-7. A flight of 2 oz. of each wine is only $10, and you can follow up with a glass of your favorite. What makes Enoteca wine tasting unique?(Veneto, Italy)
Sparkling rosé. A light, effervescent with fresh berries, acidity and gentle bubbles. Minerals shine through, making this wine serious while being delightful.
40% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir, 20% Prosecco
(Marche, Italy)
Expecting something sweet? This Later Harvest is an expression of the Verdicchio grape that has been left to hang just a little bit longer, and it’s not a sweetie at all. Look for full bodied, interesting, complex wine!
100% Verdicchio
(Puglia, Italy)
Terre del Grico’s Salice Salentino is predicated on the Negroamaro grape. The name, Negroamaro has latin and greek roots, and actually means “blackest of the blacks”. One peek at this dramatic fruit, with its darkly-hued skin to ward off the southern heat, and its equally inky flesh, and it’s not hard to imagine how this grape earned its reputation. This Salice Salentino is from master winemaker/owner, Massimiliano Apollonio whose family roots in Puglia can be traced back to the ancient Greeks. This is a wildly impressive wine. It nearly defies logic in its balance of powers, with both a sense of opulence and wonderful elegance. Its classic dense, raisiny fruits and scintillating old Mediterranean spice aromas make it a superb everyday Southern Italian experience. The average vine age for Terre del Grico is over thirty years old, with some as old as seventy.
80% Negroamaro , 10% Malvasia Nera di Lecce, 10% Malvasia Nera di Brindisi
(Tuscany, Italy)
Il Sorvegliante is the result of a mixture of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Alicante grape. It displays the features of the soil in a fascinating way. The careful fermentation in barrels and the refinement in the bottle for over 18 months give it a special quality. This is a big, chewey, tannic wine that can age for some time, and deserves decanting if opening now.
Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Alicante
(Chianti Classico, Tuscany, Italy)
Grown at high altitiude in Chianti Classico (approximately 1500 feet above sea level), this Merlot from Podere Ciona is remarkably clear in style and tension, with stinging, bright red fruits, subtle smoky notes, and a firm-bodied lushness that befits exceptional Merlot. From young vines, the fruits are very fresh, and goes perfectly with red and white meats.
95% Merlot, 5% Alicante Bouschet
