Jones of Washington Wine Tasting
with Allan Williams on Friday
Check out the wines we plan on pouring this weekend:
(Wahluke Slope, Washington)
Our Riesling is a light golden color with scents of grapefruit and granny smith apples. The flavors are of apple, ginger, and pears, with a perfect balance between the fruit and the acidity.
(Wahluke Slope, Washington)
Dark red hue, aromas of cherry, mint, and cigar box, supple and fleshy, with a full mouth feel and flavors of baked cherries, carob, and leather. 100% Merlot used from Jones Vineyards Wahluke Slope.
(Wahluke Slope, Washington)
Aromas of Bing cherry and pomegranate; and the sweet impression from oak on the palate, complex flavors of chocolate shavings, raspberry and cherry with hints of tobacco, clove and licorice; bright acidity and refined tannins which linger on the palate.
(Wahluke Slope, Washington)
Heavily pigmented red/purple tint, Aromatic accents of cloves, spice, cinnamon and coffee, full body, with flavors of boysenberry and blackberry, a complex wine with layer of flavors. 100% Syrah from Jones Vineyards.
(Wahluke Slope, Washington)
This wine exhibits an intense purple-blue color. On the nose are sweet blackberries, cassis, cedar, with dark chocolate and vanilla. On the palate we find a continuous flow of rich, spicy fruit with a full body and a lingering finish.
42% Merlot, 33% Cab. Sauv., 25% Syrah

Sarah:
The big news with us this week is that our house is finally a new color! All the way around, trim and all, caulk around the windows?
Yes, we got it all done and just by the hair of our chiny chin chins according to the weather report.
I’m so glad it’s not cooked salmon pink anymore! It’s been a two month process and hallelulah it’s finally done!
Russell:
Yep, that was a big one. Thank you to Roger, Giles, and Carole for your various contributions – we couldn’t
have done it without you! Check out the
before and
after
pics.
Now that this is done, I’m turning my attention to October-Fest. The way we’re celebrating at Enoteca is by holding 3, count them 3 big beer tastings! Iron Horse with Greg Parker is next Thursday. The 7 pm tasting is already full, but there’s still space for the 5 pm tasting and a waiting list started for the 7 pm. Ninkasi is the following week and we only have a 7 pm tasting, so sign up soon, and Grand Teton is the Thursday after that, and the 7 pm tasting has 8 seats available with 5 pm being wide open right now. You can secure tickets here. What wine tastings do we have coming up Sarah?
Sarah:
Last week on one of the rare occastions that I was working at the shop a customer came in asking if we sold Jones Wine.
We didn’t at the time but that didn’t stop Russell from schedueling a weekend tasting with this awesome little winery.
A Washington local I’m so excited to try!
I’ve been in such a beer mood lately. Does anyone else go through moods for beverages? Some days it’s red wine, or a good Viognier may hit the spot another day. Well, lately I’m all about Harvest Ales, Saisons and other Fall beers and ciders! Which reminds me, the recipe for the Vegetable Pot Pies is so simple and hearty, it’s printed below.
Russell:
I go through phases for beverages too. Here’s something cool, I bought in some Bibicaffe to take home
a case, because I love it, and several customers noticed it and convinced me to break up my case and bought
some. Enough people have been itching for it, we’ve decided to stock it regularly. It doesn’t have any alcohol,
but it does have caffiene, so that’s good. Sarah, remember the first time you served me Bibicaffe? Tell us how
it’s served!
Sarah:
Sure, You add one whole Bibicaffe to a 16oz glass and then fill the rest of the glass with milk or 1/2 and 1/2.
I also add a little vanilla syrup to it and some ice. You can tweak it to your preferance but that’s how we
used to serve it at the coffee shop so enjoy!
Russell:
It’s delicious, I remember visiting that coffee shop a lot, until I worked up the courage to ask you out.
We get new beer and wine in every week, and I wanted a quick way to start sharing which new brews we have
in stock. You’ll see on the newsletter each week a list of new arrivals. This week we have some exciting
ones such as the Mocha Death from Iron Horse, makers of the ever-popular Quilters Irish Death and guests of
the next beer tasting. Another decent line-up is the Bitterroot Brewing beers from Hamilton, Montana. I lived
in the Bitterroot Valley some years back and picked up fly-fishing and bird-watching there. I suppose if I was
back there I’d just be picking up a pint now!
Sarah:
I hope everyone can make it to the tastings this month and if not enjoy a beverage wherever you are. Goodnight America!
Vegetable Pot Pie
Here’s the recipe to the fantastic veggie pot pie we’ve been talking about lately. Sarah cooked this up last week and boy was it good! The recipe comes from a magazine, and Sarah can’t remember which one it was in! If she finds the source we’ll let you know in an upcoming newsletter, but until then, here it is.Ingredients:
1 Rutabega cut into small chunks
3 Carrots sliced
2 golden yukon potatoes small chunks
1 heart of celery chunked
2 Parsnip cut into small chunks
1 yellow onion sliced
1/4 cup chopped Parsely
1/4 cup chopped fresh thyme
2 cups sliced crimini mushrooms
1 package Peppridge Farms puff pastry dough
1/4 cup butter
2-3 tblsp black truffle oil
1/2 cup toasted hazelnuts
For sauce:
6 cups vegetable stock
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup butter
1/4 cup cream
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 350, and take the puff pastry out of the freezer to start thawing. On a cookie sheet place the chopped Hazelnuts into the oven and toast then for about a minute, depending on your oven. Just lightly golden color. You will be able to smell them when they are ready.
Add all the chopped vegetables to a large pot with the butter and let them saute on medium heat for 10 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender but not soggy. Meanwhile make the sauce by adding the butter to a large sauce pan and letting it melt. Add the flour next and let that cook for 3 minutes. Slowly add the veggie stock one cup at a time allowing the sauce to thicken. If the sauce doesn’t evenly coat the back of the spoon add a little corn starch to thicken it up. Let the sauce off the heat and after it has cooled for 5 minutes add the cream and salt and pepper to taste.
Meanwhile your veggies should be ready, so add the sauce to the vegetables. You can place them in individual ramekins or to a pie plate. I got some perfectly sized and cheap glass Pyrex ramekins at Wal-Mart. Once the vegetable filling is all distributed cut the pastry dough to just fit the dishes, add an egg wash to the dish rim and then place the pastry over the dish pressing on the rim to seal. Add the egg wash over the top and then sprinkle the hazelnuts and drizzle a little of the truffle oil over the top to finish.
Place the ramekins or pie plate into the oven and cook till the pastry is a golden brown, about 10 minutes.
Enjoy with a glass of wine or kickin’ beer and have a great evening!
