Russell Said Beer, Sarah Said Wine

Russell: Today I needed two naps to recover from all the big changes we’ve been making at Enoteca, and we’re still working on it. If you come to visit this week, please excuse the still-a-little-bit-messy situation as we get organized! Thursday we have a tasting that includes Col Solare, a big time Washington wine made by the Italian Piero Antinori that is described as a Cabernet with profound density, complex flavours, and supple texture, oh yeah and retail is $80! We’ll aslo see North Star from Walla Walla, and-AND Spring Valley, the cats who bring you Frederick and Uriah! Right now we might have to cancel it as it’s only 1/4 full, which blows my mind because it’s $30, $50, and $80 wines to taste for only $15 per person. I have to make the decision Wednesday on it, so if you’ve been waiting until the last minute, now is the time to express your interest. Sarah, can you tell us more about what happened at Enoteca on the “days off” this weekend and why folks should stop in to see the changes?

Sarah: Well, I’m more of a fall overhaul cleaner than a spring cleaner. We needed more space for wine, beer, port, and sake that our wonderful customers are looking for, so it started by taking off all the beer from every shelf to slide down all the racks, moving the big check out counter up front and a little redecorating just to spruce things up. I like the flow of things better even though it’s not quite done. Also we have more room for product now, which is the whole reason we did this. We were also able to add 20 some more Club Member Bins which are almost full already! Come on by and let us know what you think! Our friend and good customer Jeff Whitman said he liked it and he isn’t a big fan of change.

Russell: You’re right, Jeff isn’t known as “Mr. shake things up” – thank you Jeff for your help, and thank you Hannah, Roger, Carole, and Giles for your help as well. We couldn’t do it all without you, and we appreciate it very very much. There’s a bottle of the fantastic Gundlach Bundschu Merlot in it for you Carole! We worked so hard we even missed the anniversary party at Fleur de Sel, which bums me out very much. But, cest la vie, no? No crying over spilled lamb! This weekend we’re hosting Kasee Woods of Walla Walla who will be here to show off the new and exciting value line second label to Cougar Crest, Walla Walla River! We’re cramming as much wine in as we can, Kasee is trying to steal a few special bottles from the tasting room on Frenchtown Rd. for us, come by Friday from 4-7 to try them and meet her. Saturday we’ll be tasting wine from 12-7ish as usual, and at 7:30 the Stone Beer tasting will start, which is full with a waiting list! But we just booked another beer tasting for October, can you believe it? Ninkasi will be here on October 22nd, with a 7 pm tasting only. Details are below, don’t miss it.

Sarah: We visted Cougar Crest over a month ago and it is a very solid winery. They have always had a great reputation and I love value. Walla Walla River is something I’m really looking forward to trying! I love the beer tastings too, they are so fun and down to earth! It’s fall now which to me is beer season. I know, I know, everyday is a great day to drink beer, but for me their is something comforting about a good beer and warm meal in the fall. These beer tastings are really going to hit the spot for me! Pretzels and weisswurst seem like the plan, they wouldn’t serve anything else when I was in Müchen. The Germans were such sweet people too! So lets get in the “Oktober” spirit and drink beer, eat German food and lock elbows while singing! Ok, I probably won’t do the last part, American norms on peronal space and all…

Russell: October will be quite the beer-fest month at Enoteca. I just found out about the cool new Long Shadows 2006 Vintage Gift Box, put a picture up after this. We have to have our orders in by next Wednesday, September 30th, for delivery in November, so if you want to put one of these bad boys under the tree for your Long Shadows Wine Lover this year, let us know ASAP!! The cost is [Member: $323.99 / Retail: $359.99] and includes one of each 2006 vintage Red wine from the Long Shadows project, and a beautiful looking wood box. If Santa were to consider me worthy of this, I’d put it on display in my wine cellar, no doubt. Just saying.
