A Note from Russell
Our first fourth Anniversary was this weekend, and we took a little time away to the Okanogan in Canada,
and the desert of Washington. Even when your business is wine, you still end up in wine country I guess.
Mission Hill winery near Kelowna was fantastic, and there are a few bottles available from them at Enoteca. Our last night was at the resort property called Cave B, next to the concert venue in George, Washington. Both areas are highly recommended for rest and relaxation.
The best wine part of the trip for me was visiting Fielding Hills. They’re not really an “open-to-the-public” type of place with a fancy tasting room and all the fluff. Mike and Karen Wade are regular farming family folks who make a little wine, and I mean a *little* wine. The entire production from last years harvest is around 800 cases, and that encompasses 4 varietals and a blend. The winery itself Karen describes as “an ugly winery” and at first I drove past it thinking it couldn’t possibly be a winery, that must just be some out-building. But there it was.
Sarah made friends with Ace, the schnarrier, or however you spell the word that means schnauser + terrier. He’s a love bug puppy with an old dog face and just melts your heart. At the end of the day, all the charm and earthiness of a winery doesn’t matter much if they don’t produce good wine. When it comes to Fielding Hills, they produce incredible wine, perennially recognized by the experts, and one of our household favorites. Let me know if you’d like to be let in on the experience, we’re prepared to hook you up with all the bottlings they make!
By the way, Sarah’s uploaded some photos to Facebook, you can also join the Enoteca group there to keep in touch. She says one is “the best photo of grapes I’ve ever taken” so check it out!

Crew Wine Portfolio Wine Tasting
with Steve Crosta
Start the weekend out right at Enoteca – Fine Wine & Beer!
This Friday from 4-7 Enoteca will be hosting Steve Crosta, from Crew Wine Portfolio, as he shares a great line up of California and other wines! We’ll be tasting these wines Saturday from 12-7 as well, which is a great time to come beat the rush!
We want to give you the opportunity to “try before you buy” so we offer a flight of wine for a low cost. Taste a flight (2 oz. each of 5 wines) for $10 per flight, and follow up with a glass.
(Marlborough, New Zealand)
A classic New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc with aggressive flavors of grapefruit and gooseberry followed by a crisp and lingering finish.

(Russian River Valley, California)
Mossback is an old fashioned term for farmer. The Mossback wines are built around fruit grown by some of the best farmers in the Russian River Valley. This Chardonnay is cold fermented with no oak aging making a crisp, intense wine that accentuates the green apple and citrus aromas and flavors that a pure, unaltered Chardonnay can express.
Russian River Chardonnays are some of my favorites. This one is unoaked so it displays the maximum of fruit character and minimum of wood manipulation characteristics. If you don’t typically go for Chardonnay, give this a shot anyway, you might be surprised!
100% Chardonnay
[Member: $17.99 / Retail: $19.99]
(Russian River Valley, California)
The product is a blend of Russian River appellation fruit from pinot noir vineyards that Winemaker Dan Cederquist has work with for many years. The wine shows lots of black cherry and raspberry aromas with hints of vanilla, spice, cranberry and cream. An elegant wine with a long, soft finish.
For California Pinot Noir, Russian River is tops in my book. This is a great example for the price, coming in below many examples of this quality level.
100% Pinot Noir

(Dunnigan Hills, California)
As a farm kid growing up in the late 1950′s and early 1960′s John Giguiere (Founder) was a confirmed pyromaniac starting various things on fire such as his father’s wheat field. At one point, fearing total ruin from his kids burning him out of the house and farm, his father took them to the city jail for an hour stay to impress upon his brother and him the futility of their fascination with fire. John and his brother answered at a later date by graduating from random fires to the launching of rockets which often blew up at some stage of the it’s journey resulting in more random fires and a call to the local fire department for help. They eventually grew out of this fascination with the “Matchbook” but still have fond memories of the power they possessed.
This is a full bodied red with fresh blackberry and blueberry flavors, a touch of smokiness and a hint of vanilla and spice on the finish. Enjoy it with spicy sausages, cured meats and many grilled meats such as chicken, beef and lamb. Don’t forget your roasted vegetables on the side.
This is one bold, full flavored bottle of wine. We tasted it again this weekend and it has such a unique and delicious flavor to it! Come in and give it a taste.
82% Syrah, 10% Malbec, 7% Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, and 1% Tempranillo.
[Member: $16.19 / Retail: $17.99]
(Yolo County, California)
Aromas of ripe red apples, blackberries and vanilla stay focused in the palate. The wine has a long, lingering finish with hints of spice and leather. This smooth, elegant Malbec will delight those looking for an alternative red wine.
81% Malbec, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petite Sirah
[Member: $9.89 / Retail: $10.99]
