A Note from Russell
Tonight I am burning the midnight oil, staying up late after a long day of tasting wine (don’t
you feel sorry for me?) because I think it’s important to get this message out to you as soon as possible.
First priority is the Long Shadows Vintners tasting, a very special event that we throw,
now on it’s 3rd year. Those who have attended the first two events know what a great value it is to taste
seven, count them SEVEN absolutely delicious beyond the top shelf wines in one sitting.
That alone can fill the seats at twice the price.
This year we have a few interesting changes.
- Wednesday – We’re pouring the wines on Wednesday, and it happens to be next Wednesday!
- Denise – Our tasting will be led and informed by none other than Denise Grozenski from the winery!
- Price Reduced – We’ve found a way to charge less this year for this event!
Read all about the Long Shadows tasting below, and you can find even more info regarding the Long Shadows Vintners tasting event here. . Whew, now I’ve said it. What else was there?
Oh yes, this weekend we have another special treat. White Wine and Pinot Noir! Several folks have requested more white wine at the wine tasting events. Well, we do our best to serve your taste needs, so this weekend we will have 5 white wines and 2 pinot noir’s (including a Reserve!) from Montinore in Oregon!
The other thing to know is Monika from Montinore will be here on Saturday from 4-7, but we will also have the wine open on Friday from 4-7 to pour, and all day Saturday. Come meet Monika and learn more about white wine, even if you’re a “red wine drinker” take a chance for romance and come taste these whites! More information on these wines can be found in this newsletter.
Father’s Day is this weekend, and I wrote a little ditty below on some suggestions. I remember the first Father’s Day Sarah spent with me, I was suprised and giddy with delight when I unwrapped the four official Chimay chalices she had acquired for me. What can be better for a gift than that? The engraved shuriken the next year came close, but beer and wine cannot be topped.
That about sums it up. We’ll be seeing the Sam Adams beer tasters on Thursday, keep your eye on this newsletter, we’re setting up a beer tasting for July that we’ll announce as soon as we have it in stone. Have a great day!

Montinore Estate Wine Tasting This Weekend
Bring on the White Wine, Monika from Montinore here on Saturday
Start Father’s day weekend out right at Enoteca – Fine Wine & Beer!
This Friday from 4-7 Enoteca will be opening a bunch of white wine, and a couple fantastic Pinot Noirs, from Montinore Estates of Oregon. On Saturday from 4-7 Monika Seryukova will be here to share the wines, wine information, and answer questions!
We want to give you the opportunity to “try before you buy” so we offer a flight of wine for a low cost. Taste a flight (2 oz. each of 7 wines) for $10 per flight, and follow up with a glass.
(Willamette Valley, Oregon)
The northern whites! We’ve been wanting to make a wine like this for some time. After experimenting the last few years, we’ve put together a blend we really like. This wine was born of a desire to capture the incredible aromatics and flavors of our cool climate white varieties in one expressive white wine.
It pours a pale gold, and grapefruit, pineapple and fresh flower aromas leap from the glass. On the palate a crisp, fresh entry is balanced by succulent ripe fruit flavors of peach, grapefruit and quince, culminating in a fresh, lingering finish. It’s great with a variety of lighter dishes and cheeses – or just for sipping by starlight.
60% Müller-Thurgau, 23% Gewürztraminer, 17% Pinot Gris
[Member: $12.59 / Retail: $13.99]
(Willamette Valley, Oregon)
The wine has a medium straw gold color with a beautiful aroma of pineapple and grapefruit with floral overtones. On the palate it bursts with ripe pineapple and fresh grapefruit flavors accented with notes of honey and flowers. The finish is sweet but balanced by the ample acidity leaving one with rich flavors of citrus, orange peel and honey that remains fresh through the long finish.
100% Riesling
[Member: $10.79 / Retail: $11.99]
(Willamette Valley, Oregon)
Pale gold color with green tints, aromas of grapefruit, flowers and fresh herbs with hints of anise. The wine offers fresh citrus flavor with intriguing subtle notes of lavender, tarragon and wildflowers. The finish is slightly sweet with fresh citrus and herbal notes.
100% Müller-Thurgau
[Member: $7.19 / Retail: $7.99]
(Willamette Valley, Oregon)
The cooler growing season in 2007 produced white wines with great aromatics and a bright fresh character. Our ‘07 Pinot Gris is no exception. It is very aromatic with notes of fresh ripe pear, yellow apple and a pleasant floral/herbal accent. On the palate it bursts into flavors of ripe honeydew melon with hints of mango overlaying ripe apple/pear character. The long finish is dry, fresh and crisp with a sweet/tart apple essence and distinct mineral qualities.
100% Pinot Gris
[Member: $10.79 / Retail: $11.99]
(Willamette Valley, Oregon)
2007 was a picture perfect year for Riesling with just enough rain late September to keep the vines going and then sunny, cool weather the last half of October allowing the Riesling to slowly reach perfect ripeness. Our ’07 Almost Dry offers a beautiful aroma of lime, fresh flowers and tangerine with hints of lilac. On the palate it has an elegant, almost silky yet fresh entry with flavors of grapefruit accented with mandarin and tangerine. The finish shows the refreshing, palate cleansing acidity with an almost imperceptible sweetness that accents the lingering citrus and mineral flavors.
100% Riesling
[Member: $8.99 / Retail: $9.99]
(Willamette Valley, Oregon)
The 2007 growing season was a bit of a “nail biter” for Pinot Noir but in the end we couldn’t happier with the results. We had a cool wet Spring, a cool summer and a couple of scattered rains in late September, early October but this turned out to be just what our Pinot vines wanted to produce classic, complex Pinot Noir. The ’07 is very aromatic with notes of raspberry, Bing cherry, cranberry and baking spices with hints of rhubarb and mocha. On the palate it is fresh and ripe with more cherry, raspberry and spice and subtle notes of earth and mocha that unfolds in layers in the mouth. The finish lingers with flavors of strawberry, red berries and spice. This is a wine that should age very nicely.
100% Pinot Noir
[Member: $17.99 / Retail: $19.99]
(Willamette Valley, Oregon)
This 2007 Pinot has a mid to dark Garnet color with aromas of bright blackberry, mocha, cedar and chocolate. On the palate it offers ripe bramble berries, dried herbs, hints of barnyard, dark chocolate, spice and earth with bright and balanced acid. Balanced tannins, oak spice, bright blackberry, cedar and hints of earth finish long.
100% Pinot Noir
[Member: $26.99 / Retail: $29.99]

Washington State has a secret weapon in the wine making world. Allen Shoup. Allen is the visionary behind
the Long Shadows project, which brings in the best wine makers in the world to make great Washignton State wines.
We love these wines so much we want to share them with as many people as possible.
Wednesday June 24th, at 7 p.m., at Enoteca in Post Falls, we will be sharing all seven Long Shadows Vintners wines. Here is the list: Poet’s Leap Riesling, Chester-Kidder, Pirouette, Sequel Syrah, Saggi, Pedestal Merlot, and of course the Feather Cabernet Sauvignon. 2 oz. of each wine will be poured. This is a unique opportunity as these wines are extremely limited in nature and this is the only time of year we can get them all together in one place. This tasting will be a “classroom style” tasting starting at 7 p.m. and will last about 1.5-2 hours. The tasting starts at 7 on Wednesday, June 24th. Tickets to attend are $20 per seat, paid in advance. Only 24 seats are available to this event. For complete details regarding the Long Shadows Vintners tasting event, click here. Club members can have tickets simply added to their Bin, and anyone can order tickets by coming into Enoteca in Post Falls, calling us at 208-457-9885 or sending us email at service@corkjoy.com . |

Be Prepared for Father’s Day, A Few Manly Ideas
Every Father’s Day I look forward to the thoughtfulness of my beautiful wife Sarah. This year the cat’s already
out of the bag, she managed to scrape together tickets to Topol. If there is a manly musical, it’s Fiddler, and
if there’s an archetype father it’s Tevye, and if anyone can play Tevye, it’s Topol. Thank you Sarah, what
a great gift idea, even if I have to wait until September to claim it.
While I’m waiting, I plan to enjoy some tasty treasures that are definately manly. For instance, shortly after the actual Father’s Day, I’ll be at the Long Shadows wine tasting, where some of the biggest, baddest, yummiest wines of Washington State will be featured. If I wasn’t there I’d at least want a bottle of the Feather Cabernet or Pedestal Merlot for hoarding until just the right time.
If he likes coffee and beer, he may like one or all of the seven or eight beers made with coffee from around the world carried at Enoteca. For instance Southern Tier Jah*va is made from Blue Mountain of Jamaica, and Mikkeller Beer Geek Brunch Weasel is made from Kopi Luwak, the civet weasel coffee.
Tons of great beer options are available, as well as proper glassware for each beer brand. Come browse the choices and see if we can help you find just the right thing!
The MAC (Museum of Arts and Culture) in Spokane has some classic movie and TV original costumes on display, any fan of Star Trek, Star Wars, or a few other shows would enjoy getting there before it’s gone! Take a Dark Force Double Extreme Imperial Wheat Stout with that, or a Black Hole Stout, or some Andeluna wine, or come up with some other pun that I can’t even think of!
Want to give him a gift that keeps on giving? Consider signing up Dad for the Wine and/or Beer Club! He can recieve 6 or 12 months of great wine and/or beer. That’s a good one!
