A Note from Russell

Wow, what a wine dinner we had on Tuesday! Check out my review below, we had a fantastic line up of wine and food. This weekend is exciting, we have Rebecca Gunselman from Robert Karl here to pour a great selection of her and her husbands wine, don’t miss it on Friday from 4-7. If you can’t make it Friday, we’ll have the wine open on Saturday too, but Rebecca will not be here.

The Samuel Adams Beer tasting for next Thursday is full, we can put you on a waiting list if you want to pray that someone cancels. Why anyone would cancel beer tasting tickets I have no idea, but sometimes there are reasons. It will be a fun event!

We hope your summer is getting off to a great start, enjoy the weather, the water, and take some wine & beer with you! Boaters should come in to check out our Revelry Casks, great wine without the glass for only [Members: $19.79 / Retail: $21.99] per 1.5 Liter Cask (2 bottles). Cabernet, Merlot, and Chardonnay are available.

Robert Karl Wine Tasting This Weekend
with Rebecca Gunselman

Start the weekend out right at Enoteca – Fine Wine & Beer!

This Friday from 4-7 Enoteca will be sharing a selection of Cabernet Sauvignons from around the world.

We want to give you the opportunity to “try before you buy” so we offer a flight of wine for a low cost. Taste a flight (2 oz. each of 4 wines) for $10 per flight, and follow up with a glass. We will be tasting Saturday from 12-7 as well, which is a good time to beat the rush.

White Wine Robert Karl Sauvignon Blanc 2008
(Washington)

The 2008 Sauvignon Blanc is 100% Sauvignon Blanc from Andrew’s McKinley Springs Vineyard. This wine is crisp with vibrant lemon zest, gooseberry, and citrus finishing with cleansing lively acidity. We fermented an aged in stainless steel.

Red Wine Robert Karl Claret 2006
(Horse Heaven Hills, Washington)

2006 was a beautiful vintage in Washington. A cool and wet spring led into a classic growing season. Plenty of summer heat produced grapes with wonderful intensity, natural acidity and great balance.

The 2006 Horse Heaven Hills Claret (red wine) is a blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 15% Petit Verdot, and 5% Malbec. The fruit was sourced from our estate vines at Gunselman Bench, Andrews Horse Heaven Ranch, McKinley Springs and Phinny Hill vineyards. It was aged in 70% French oak and 30% American oak for 21 months, 50% of the oak was new. The ideal consumption is 2 to 5 years from release date, but this wine will develop for another 5-7 years.

Red Wine Robert Karl Cabernet Franc 2006
(Horse Heaven Hills, Washington)

Although we have always fermented Cabernet Franc, we have always blended it into our Claret. However, the Cabernet Franc in 2006 was beautiful! This wine is 100% Cabernet Franc from our vines at Phinny Hill vineyards. It was aged in 100% new American oak for 21 months. The ideal consumption is 2 to 5 years from release date, but this wine will develop for another 5-7 years.

Red Wine Robert Karl Gunselman Bench Cabernet Sauvignon 2005
(Horse Heaven Hills, Washington)

The 2005 growing season was near perfect! A cool spring followed by a long warm summer with sunny days and cool nights. The grapes were the most beautiful we have seen to date.

The 2005 Horse Heaven Hills Gunselman Bench Cabernet Sauvignon is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Gunselman Bench, our estate vineyard. It was aged in 100% new French oak for 26 months.

Here’s what the Wine Enthusiast says about it:
Fragrant, smoky, oaky and seductive, this toasty wine is immediately appealing, and has been given the all-star treatment. The young vineyard offers promising fruit; its flavors light and clean, tasting of raspberries and pie cherries. Lots of oak gives it a very chocolaty finish.

Wine Dinner Review: Kermit Lynch
French Wine Portfolio at Fleur de Sel

Everyone in attendance had a great time Tuesday evening at the Fleur de Sel French Wine Dinner with Kermit Lynch importers and Enoteca. Sure it takes a bunch of people to pull it off, but it’s worth it. Here is the menu we enjoyed with a little bit of info on each wine. After the wine orders from the dinner are filled, there may be some stock available, so if any of this looks good, feel free to place an order.

Hors d’oeuvre
White Wine Terrine of fresh and smoked Pacific salmon “à l’aneth”
Paired with: 2007 La Soeur Cadette, Bourgogne blanc

White Burgundy, a.k.a. Chardonnay, it’s fantastic, and a great price for this type of quality! Lightly kissed with oak, this elegant white wine expresses mineral notes, hints of vanilla, citrus flavors, and balanced creaminess and acidity. Great wine for white wine drinkers, great for those who are tired of “California style” chardonnay. The salmon was mashed together in a traditional cold fashion with all sorts of tasty fixings, and there was some type of mousse sauce that was incredible with it!

Appetizer
Rose Wine “Petite” Bouillabaisse of Monkfish and crustaceous
Paired with: 2007 Domaine Terrebrune, Bandol rosé

My favorite wine of the night! So many people were commenting on how impressive this is. The color is a gentle peach tint, beautiful in the glass. Mouthfeel is full and rich, creamy and yummy, and the flavors are elegant and hint at citrus fruits, strawberry, peach, and watermelon notes. Also perceptible are mineral and floral notes. The thing that really blew me away was how lively and fresh it is!

We learned of the fantastic, über-high quality rosés of the Bandol region and through this introductory level Bandol. This is a great example of “pink but not sweet” rosé!

The monkfish has such a unique texture, if you haven’t already, don’t pass up an opportunity to try it! The soup is a traditional Provençal fish stew originating from the port city of Marseille. I was pleasantly suprised to taste some scallps in there too!

Second course
Red Wine Seared beef Carpaccio with truffle oil and mushroom confit
Paired with: 2007 Domaine la Coutale, Cahors

The most popular seller of the night, this one became known as “real Malbec” as distinguished from the fruity and soft stuff the Argentines make. A real bold and impressive example from Cahors, with a touch of Merlot blended in, it gives you both barrles and stands up to a the beef dish well.

The beef medallions were just barely cooked, so they expressed their full meaty potential and drew out the pepper notes in the wine.

[Member: $15.39 / Retail: $16.99]

Main course
Red Wine Roasted rack of lamb “en crôute”, braised garlic and rosemary jus
Paired with: 2007 Domaine de Fontsainte, Corbieres

Great value priced wine, crafted from Mourvedre and Grenache, delicious and fantastic with the “Lamb wellington” as Sarah called it, the lamb wrapped in a pastry, yum! I can’t resist lamb anyways, but this dish really stole the show for me.

[Member: $12.59 / Retail: $13.99]

Dessert
Red Wine Salad of fresh red fruits in a red wine syrup and a rich cassis mousse
Paired with: 2007 Château Thivin, Côte de Brouilly

This wine is soft and lively, brimming with fresh fruit flavors. It’s a Beaujolais, not a Nouveau though. It was served chilled for this tasting, which works very well for the wine. Chilled red wine for the summer months, yes please!

The black currant mousse is irresistable! There was something very similar between the flavor of the syrup and the flavors in the wine, I really enjoyed how that worked. The sweetness of the dessert brought out some tart notes in the wine, so if you’d rather not do tart, just drink the wine alone or without sweets!

[Member: $22.49 / Retail: $24.99]

If you’d like to place an order, email us at service@corkjoy.com , or call 208-457-9885. None of these wines are in stock, so the best way to acquire them is to place an order.
