Small Vineyards Italian Wine Tasting This Weekend

Italian Wine Tasting
Start the weekend out right at Enoteca – Fine Wine & Beer!

This Friday from 4-7 Enoteca will be sharing a selection of wine from Reininger winery.

We want to give you the opportunity to “try before you buy” so we offer a flight of wine for a low cost. Taste a flight (2 oz. each of 4 wines) for $10 per flight, and follow up with a glass. We will be tasting Saturday from 12-7 as well, which is a good time to beat the rush.

White Wine Tenuta Ponte Greco di Tufo Irpina 2005
(Campania, Italy)

Say: [tay-NOO-tah • PAHN-tay • GRAY-ko • dee • TOO-foh]

Perhaps Southern Italy’s most important white wine, it is also one of its oldest. Dating back to the ancient Greeks, this varietal grows in the village of Tufo in the Irpinia zone of Campania. It’s complexion consists of terrific minerality from the heavily clay-laden soil, which leads to slow ripening, and greater complexity in the wines. Perfect with grilled fish and shellfish, and white sauces. Serve chilled.

85% Greco di Tufo, 15% Coda di Volpe

[Member: $19.79 / Retail: $21.99]

Red Wine Poderi Elia Dolcetto d’ Alba 2005
(Piemonte, Neive, Italy)

Say: [poh-DAY-ree • ay-LEE-ah • dohl-CHAY-toh • DAHL-bah]

Winemaker Federico Stella [fay-day-REE-ko • STAY-lah] crafts this truly wonderful Dolcetto: very clean, stinging rhubarb, and pleasant toastiness; bright red fruits with a nice touch of sweet cigar smokiness. Very smooth with “cashmere” tannins. A perfect example of classic Piedmont style for an everyday wine. Try this with any tomato sauce based Italian dish.

100% Dolcetto d’Alba

[Member: $13.49 / Retail: $14.99]

Red Wine Tenuta Ponte Campi Taurasini Irpina 2005
(Campania, Italy)

Say: [tay-NOO-tah • PAHN-tay • CAM-pee • TAO-rah-SEE-nee]

Irpinia Campi Taurasini is a fine red wine. It is made from a mixture of grapes derived from varieties typically grown in Irpinia. The main one is Aglianico, with its grapes making up about 70% of the blend. Merlot and Sangiovese follow in variable percentages depending on the year.

Aglianico, Merlot, Sangiovese

[Member: $12.59 / Retail: $13.99]

Red Wine Rigoloccio il Sorvegliante 2005
(Tuscany, Italy)

Il Sorvegliante is the result of a mixture of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Alicante grape. It displays the features of the soil in a fascinating way. The careful fermentation in barrels and the refinement in the bottle for over 18 months give it a special quality. This is a big, chewey, tannic wine that can age for some time, and deserves decanting if opening now.

Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Alicante

[Member: $25.19 / Retail: $27.99]

The first time I heard of the Kermit Lynch portfolio was from Wine Club Member Bob Carmichael (Bin #103). When I got to meet someone from the importer, I was thrilled, and he was gracious enough to pour several of the French wines for me. Four of them are now on the shelf at Enoteca – Fine Wine & Beer, including a fantastic Beaujolais Villages, a reasonably priced Bordeaux, a dry and yummy spring time Rosé, and an Alsacian White.

It turns out that Laurent Zirotti of Fleur de Sel has been a fan of the Kermit Lynch portfolio since he had access to them in Billings. Put 1 and 1 and 1 together and PRESTO, we will be holding a fun, educational, and most of all TASTY wine dinner on June 9th!
