A Note from Sarah
Happy New Year Everyone!!!
Is it just me or did 2008 pass faster than any other year before it? I’m excited for what 2009 holds. Russell and I have a one year old now. What a change he made in one year. Judah now has four teeth and is on the brink of walking. He had his first taste of cake on his birthday. I loved watching his face enjoy that new experience.
I hope your year will be filled with new experiences (all good ones of course!). One things for sure, we know that 2009 has already brought us a frugal mind. Russell and I are trying to watch our pennies this year, and much like our club members we want the most bang for our buck. Even more than usual! Russell and I have taken to date night at home, I make a nice dinner and he brings home a lovely bottle of wine. We had tacos last time so in that case it was beer. But my point is that if you are trying to still unwind from a busy day or just escape a little from our crazy weather, a bottle of wine is still a romantic and less expensive choice than two tickets to Hawaii. Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t turn down the opportunity to sip wine on the beach, but I, much like my friends, don’t seem to have the extra time and money to.
My idea is to embrace what we have and where we are. Get creative and try a new recipe, a new wine, a new experience and have a great 2009!
Be sure to read about the upcoming wine maker dinner. Rob Mercer will be here for a dinner at Fleur de Sel on January 20th. It’s coming up soon, so make sure to make your reservations now. The last wine maker dinner was so delicious and fun that I wouldn’t want anyone to miss out on this one!

Tsillan Cellars Wine Tasting this Weekend
Start the weekend out right at Enoteca – Fine Wine & Beer!
This Friday from 4-7 Enoteca will be hosting Shane Collins, wine maker
from Tsillan Cellars (say Chelan).
We want to give you the opportunity to “try before you buy”
so we offer a flight of wine for a low cost.
Taste a flight (2 oz. each of 4 wines) for $10 per flight, and follow up with a glass.
We will be tasting Saturday from 12-7 as well, which is a great time to beat the rush.
Buy a bottle, Shane can autograph it!
(Columbia Valley, Washington)
Brilliant pale straw in color and intensely spicy on the nose, followed by aromas of lychee, orange/mango, and hints of rose. On the palate, the wine is sweet, soft, round and mouth filling, while the wine’s natural acid balances the residual sugar nicely to give a dry finish. Flavors of turkish delight persist late onto the finsh.
[Member: $19.79 / Retail: $21.99]
(Columbia Valley, Washington)
Comprised of award winning Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, this is truly a full bodied “Beautiful Red”. Visually, it is intensely deep ruby-purple in color. Cedar, eucalyptus and cherry-tobacco balance out the intense blackberry and black cherry notes. American oak adds hints of vanilla bean and bittersweet intense, concentrated mouth-feel: A perfect wine for beef or game. 1141 Cases Produced.
[Member: $26.99 / Retail: $29.99]
(Columbia Valley, Washington)
Wow! An Italian Blend of Sangiovese, Barbera, and Nebbiolo that will tantalize your senses!
[Member: $22.49 / Retail: $24.99]
(Columbia Valley, Washington)
Tsillan’s first Estate red wine. This wine is cool-climate in style, displaying red fruit, smoke, pepper, and bacon fat on the nose. The palate reveals soft, velvet-like tannins which provide texture and marry well with both acid and fruit. Similar to Syrah from France’s Northern Rhone Valley, this wine is enjoyable now, but is wonderfully age-worthy. It will become more complex and balanced over time. 674 Cases Produced. Double Gold Medal- 2008 Washington State Wine Competition
[Member: $29.69 / Retail: $32.99]

$5 Thursday Wine Tasting
Los Cardos Argentina with Dustin Lewis
There are still a handful of seats available for our Thursday tasting!
Come to Enoteca Thursday, January 8th, at 7 p.m. for a 1/2 price tasting event!
Dustin Lewis will be on hand to share a great line up of affordable and luxury wines from Argentinian
producer Los Cardos.
Explore the mountains of Argentina through delicious wines!
Los Cardos translates to “The Thistle”, a flower of surprising colour and unequalled beauty. It is the unmistaken symbol of the presence of good terroir, where grapes of the highest quality are grown. In Ugarteche, Lujan de Cuyo, at more than 1000 metres above sea level, our grapes enjoy a permanent fresh mountain breeze which descends from the Andes. The vineyards are submerged in this imposing yet silent landscape, where the intense lilac colour of the thistle flourishes among the vines. Unchangeable, the original beauty of the thistle, growing larger with the passing of time…our Los Cardos wines do the same.
Tickets are $5, get your reservations early. This is a “classroom style” tasting that starts at 7:00 p.m. and will last about 1.5-2 hours. It will be limited to 24 participants. The first ones to respond will have seats! The opportunity to interact with Dustin and ask questions makes this format fun.
The tasting fee is cut in half to make it that much easier!
Tickets are $5 per person. Email us at service@corkjoy.com to reserve space, or call 208-457-9885.

Fresh Beers at Enoteca Fine Wine and Beer
We’re always on the hunt for great new beer. Here are some notes on just two of the new brands that we’ve brought in
and put on the shelf. Give something new a taste this week. Whether you like hoppy, bitter beers or
smoothe dark beers, we have something new for your tastes!
There is a great beer tasting scheduled for Thursday, January 22nd. This is a beer tasting to definately not miss, as we will be tasting through beers of several different styles, from different countries and we’ll have the importer, Jhon Gilroy, on hand to talk about them, answer questions, and educate. The “classroom format” beer tasting is a great way to learn more about what’s in your glass and enhance your beer drinking experience.
– Russell Mann
Here’s the brewery’s notes:
At the Southern Tier Brewing Company, vigorously hopped beer is our standard and inspiration. We continue a commitment to innovation with our most aggressive offering yet. Unearthly is a manifestation of the brewer’s craft; skillfully balancing art and the forces of nature to produce a divine liquid. Delicately pour a taste into a fluted glass. Smell the enchanting aromas of the hops waft forward as your first sip divulges this beer’s fervent soul. To underestimate Unearthly is to trifle with the mysteries of the universe, so please consume wisely.
This is one hoppy mutha of a beer! High octane, highly hopped, big bitterness and floral. Hop heads take note.11% ABV. 22 oz. bottle
[Member: $6.29 / Retail: $6.99 / Member Case: $5.94 ea.]
This beer begins in spring when oat seeds are sown as soon as the soil can be worked. Meanwhile, select types of barley are planted with hopes that Mother Nature will be kind. Our brewers wait patiently until the legumes are mature and ready for the scythe. Upon delivery to the brewery, these ingredients are mixed together in the mash tun where they steep, creating a rich molasses-like liquid. Spicy hops are boiled with the thick brew, giving balance and complexity. Brewers yeast feasts upon the rich sugars, concluding its transformation into oatmeal stout.
Pour Oat into a snifter, allow its thick tan head to slowly rise, releasing unbridled aromas. The color of Oat is as dark as a moonless night. The first sip reveals Oat’s thick and nourishing taste. Like a haversack to a horse, a bottle of this stout is a meal in itself. Enjoy responsibly.
11% ABV. 22 oz. bottle
[Member: $8.09 / Retail: $8.99 / Member Case: $7.64]
Brewed once a year to fight cabin fever, this spiced strong ale uses all natural ingredients, including crushed cinnamon, honey, chopped ginger, orange zest, cardamon & cloves. Deep red in color, this medium-bodied beer is a winter warmer – enjoy on a cold night in front of the fireplace. Get it while it lasts!
8.6% ABV. 16 IBUs. 22 oz. bottle
[Member: $6.29 / Retail: $6.99 / Member Case: $5.94]
No it’s not something for the south paw timber man, it’s a super aggressive and delicious beer, a Double Sawtooth, which is Left Hand’s amber. This beer doesn’t fit nicely into any style, so we’ll call it “American Strong Ale” – it’s malty, it’s hoppy, it’s smoothe, it’s agressive. Give this one a try, it’s a Chainsaw!
9.0% ABV. 750 ml cork finished bottle
[Member: $10.79 / Retail: $11.99 / Member Case: $8.49]
Strong roasted malt and coffee flavors build the foundation of this classic cream stout. The addition of milk sugar mellows the intense roastiness and gives this beer the most incredible creamy mouth feel.
Yummy! For a dark beer that doesn’t have that bitter finish, give this Milk Stout a try. It’s creamy and delicious goodness!5.25% ABV. 6 Pack 12 oz. bottles
[Member: $9.89 / Retail: $10.99 / Member Case: $9.34]
