A Note from Sarah
It hasn’t been a bad start to the month. The weather has been bearable, the roads have been clear and for us ladies
its a calorie free month! Ok that last part was a fib.
It is definitely time to remember important people in our lives and celebrating together. That includes great food and wonderful beverages. For instance, I’m hosting a cookie swap this week and I plan on treating my girlfriends to some amazing beers to accompany our treats. I love beer and dessert! Just like most women I love chocolate and diamonds too, so this pair might work for other ladies too.
Some of my favorite beers we will be enjoying are Mikkeller’s Santa’s Little Helper [Member: $13.49 / Retail: $14.99] which is a liquid chocolate heaven. Also, Rogue Chocolate Stout and Hazelnut Brown [Member: $5.39 / Retail: $5.99], blended together to make a “brownie”! We have tested these with cookies such as macaroons and chocolate chip with very happy results! I love rich flavors and the combination of beer and dessert is simply decadent!
I was having some pot roast the other night and opened up a Sawbuck Malbec [Member: $9.89 / Retail: $10.99]. Wow, what a full-bodied treat that was! It woke up my everyday roast and made it seem like Christmas dinner without all the extra work. I’ve been working in wine for a while and I’m still surprised at the transformation a good bottle of wine can have on an evening.
Go out and really enjoy this time of year with everyone you care about. And take a few bottles of beer or wine with you. They get lonely just sitting on the shelf at Enoteca!
Enjoy the season!
And by the way…
This weekend we’re hosting a wine tasting you don’t want to miss! These hand selected Italian wines are limited to stock on hand! They were imported directly from Italy for this tasting.

Small Vineyards Italian Wine Tasting with Tom Kelly
Start the weekend out right at Enoteca – Fine Wine & Beer!
This Friday from 4-7 Enoteca will be hosting Tom Kelly, wine importer from Small Vineyards. He’ll be sharing new selections that have very limited availability. We want to give you the opportunity to “try before you buy” so we offer a flight of wine for a low cost. Taste a flight (2 oz. each of 5 wines) for $10 per flight, and follow up with a glass. We will be tasting Saturday from 12-7 as well, which is a great time to beat the rush.
De Tarczal Trentino Moscato Giallo 2007
(Alto Adige, Italy)
This lively, fresh wine abounds with floral notes, apricot, peach, and exotic fruits. The impression is that you are about to taste a sweet wine, but you are in for a surprise. What is delivered is a crisp, dry, and elegant wine.
[Member: $16.19 / Retail: $17.99]
Fattoria Bibbiani Treggiaia 2004
(Tuscany, Italy)
For nearly a millennia, wine has been made at Fattoria Bibbiani, located in Montalbano, Tuscany on the pilgrimage trail to Rome. Producers of our most popular Chianti, Poggio Vignoso, this blend of classic Sangiovese and Cabernet is a purist’s delight – taut but friendly.
Luigi Donato
Garden lover, professor & Winemaker
[Member: $9.89 / Retail: $10.99]
Compagnia dii ermes Cesanese Basic 2006
(Italy)
Spicy peppers, bright pomegranate and currant notes, and fig essence are the hallmark characteristics of Cesanese. The name (pronounced “chay-za-NAY-zay”) comes from the old term “cese”, meaning steppes, which is what the vines were planted on. Know what? They still are.
Silvestro coilli, Marina ugolini & Mariano Mampieri
[Member: $14.39 / Retail: $15.99]
La Quercia Montepulciano d’Abruzzo 2005
(Abruzzo, Italy)
Say: (la-KWIR-cha) (mohn-tay-pool-CHAH-no dah-BROOT-soh)
100% Organic. This Montepulciano is a great example of what happens when you match low-yield winemaking expertise with a prolific growing zone, and constantly cut, cut, cut back the vines. Made by winemaker Antonio Lamona, the result is one of the best quality, most expressive and balanced Montepulcianos around. La Quercia, the namesake of the estate, is a type of large, long-lived oak tree that grows on the estate. This wine is also 100% organic, and delivers as a wine that takes no shortcuts.
Antonio Lamona
earth concious winemaker
100% Montepulciano
[Member: $10.79 / Retail: $11.99]
Tre Donne “3″ 2004
(Piemonte, Italy)
Say: (tray DOHN-ay) (tray)
Named for both the number of varietals and the 3 famous Sisters, “Tre” is a fascination Rosanna and friends have with blending the light-bodied immediacy of Barbera with the gregarious body of Cabernet, and the austere structure of Nebbiolo.
Antonella, Rosanna, Daniela Lequio
Sisters, rebels & winemakers
Say the sisters names: (don-YEAH-lah), (rohz-AHN-ah), and (ahn-toh-NAY-lah LAY-kwee-oh)
[Member: $20.69 / Retail: $22.99]
Antonio Sanguineti Caruso 2007
(Tuscany, Italy)
Antonio “Maestro” Sanguineti has brought together three of his closest amici to make a single wine from the three major zones of Italy. Perhaps best described as a “Super Italian”, it is a “baby Amarone” meets “baby Super Tuscan” meets Sicilian Nero d’Avola. Wow!
Antonio Sanguineti
Opera lover, race car driver & winemaker
[Member: $17.99 / Retail: $19.99]
Terre Grico Don Felice 2003
(Puglia, Italy)
Say: (DAHN fay-LEE-chay) (TAY-ray dell GREE-koh)
Bonus Round: One bottle will be open Friday for a splash taste. When it’s gone, it’s gone! Come early, come often!
Hailing from Puglia, the Apollonio brothers have created a rich, compelling blend of Negroamaro and Primitivo, with lush body and strong exotic spice aromas. Aged in oak for 2 years. Since they inherited the vineyard in 1995, their goal is to make the best wine in southern italy.
Marcello & Massimiliano
Brothers, Geniuses & Winemakers
50% Primitivo, 50% Negroamaro
[Member: $25.19 / Retail: $27.99]
Pricing disclaimer.
All of these wines come with great stories. An example…
Here’s the official scoop on the Tre Donne:As much as Alessandro Lequio loved his daughters, there was no way he was going to hand over the family vineyard to women. (According to his wife, Donna Bruna, Alessandro actually cried for half an hour when their third and final child, Daniela, was born!) Four generations of fathers had handed the estate down to their sons, and even though he handn’t had a boy, Alessandro would be damned if the family business was going to be run by the fairer sex.
“Marry a good winemaker,” he would tell them. Just as stubborn as their father, the sisters all staunchly refuted this notion, and assured him that he would be handing the estate over to them one day. In the end (and presumably tired of arguing), everyone agreed to a “do-or-die” wager, and literally bet the ranch: Deciding he could trick them into failure, Alessandro agreed to give the gals everything if they could pass three years of his rigorous tests, culminating in a single vintage of wine which he, himself would judge.
To everyone’s surprise, the Sisters never gave up. and moreover, they actually won more awards in their first year of production than Alessandro had in his entire career! True to his word, their papa changed his tune and turned the estate over to his daughters. He was so deeply impressed, he even allowed them to change the name to ‘Tre Donne’ – which means “three women.”
