Wine Tasting this Weekend
Start the weekend out right at Enoteca - Fine Wine & Beer!
This Friday from 4-7 Enoteca will be sharing a delicious selection of wine to go with Candace Frasher’s book Through the Grapevine. More details about the book are below. We will be tasting Saturday from 12-7 as well, which is a great time to taste wine to beat the rush. Taste a flight (2 oz. each of 4 wines) for $10 per flight, and follow up with a glass.
The 2006 Elk Cove Vineyards Pinot Gris (Pee-noe Gree) starts out with sweet aromatic fruits of the tropics; pineapple, guava and a touch of honeysuckle, hinting of springtime freshness, while also giving crispness on the palate with citrus and grapefruit. Yet true to the Elk Cove Vineyards’ style, there is a rich mouthfeel to give a full and satisfying balanced finish. Drink this lovely white wine as an aperitif or with a variety of food pairings from salmon and main-course salads to Asian and Thai influenced dishes.

2006 Howling Wolfe Zinfandel is from the Zephyr Ridge Vineyard in the Horse Heaven Hills. The wine was aged in American oak for 14 months before bottling. Enjoy now with prime rib, rack of lamb or port-glazed pork loin or age through 2014.

Inspired by Penfolds Bin 707, Bin 407 offers varietal definition and approachability, yet with structure and depth of flavour. A textbook Cabernet, the varietally expressive Bin 407 highlights the rewards of Penfolds multi-region, multivineyard blending, with a core of ripe fruit supported by a sensitive use of French and American oak.
Nose: An aromatic, active and distinctly Cabernet Sauvignon nose leaps out of the glass. Wafts of Asian spices, dried lemongrass, star anise and blackcurrant arise with air, dusty oak notes oscillate in and out.
Palate: True to vintage, the palate shows natural, mouthwatering acidity, balanced by complimentary stylish oak and a lithe, sinewy texture. The mid-palate is substantial; mouthfilling, yet long and defined - mandatory for the 100% Cabernet Bin 407 style. Cabernet tannins and a giveaway Cabernet flavour profile show, without astringence or greenness. We will have to wait, but could this release rival the 1991 or 1996 bin 407?

The 2005 Andrew Will Cuvee Lucia Sangiovese (Sahn-joe-VAY-zeh) is an outstanding gourmet wine at a very reasonable price. The nose is filled with dried currant and spice. While the core of the wine is firm and pliable, it still has the structure to age. Strong and powerful, this wine exhibits all of the fruit flavors of cherry, dried plums, and other red and purple fruits. These ripe flavors are balanced by savory herbal notes and spiciness. It fills the mouth with sufficient weight on the palate and a long delicious finish.
