Rhone Wine Tasting
Start the weekend out right at Enoteca - Fine Wine & Beer! This Friday from 4-7 Enoteca will be hosting Debbie Keller from IWM as she shares a selection of Rhone and Rhone style wines. We will be tasting Saturday from 12-7 as well, which is a great time to taste wine to beat the rush. Taste a flight (2 oz. each of 4 wines) for $10 per flight, and follow up for $5 per 5 oz. glass, except the Chateauneuf du Pape which is $10 per glass.
A Special Note About French Wine:
Don’t be shy when it comes to exploring French wine. We all have to start somewhere and with French wine it can seem intimidating. The French have been making wine for many years, and many of the Washington and California wines you know and love are made in traditional styles of France. We put together a line-up that includes a couple of actual Rhone wines, and a couple of American made but Rhone style wines that we enjoy drinking. Go ahead, give them a try!

Roussanne, one of the six white Rhône grapes of Châteauneuf du Pape, is a relative newcomer to Washington State. Orange and peach blossom aromas and flavors are characteristic of the variety. After gentle whole-cluster press, the juice was fermented in stainless tank. A portion of Viognier was added to lift and brighten the blend.

This wine is named for the 45th North parallel which runs two kilometers from Jaboulet’s cellars. In the village of Pont de l’Isère, a monument bears the words: “Here begins the South.” Borne from the family’s pride in generations of winemaking, this Jaboulet wine known as ‘Parallèle 45′ has had this name since the 1950s.
The wine has a deep color, with elegant and expressive aromas of red fruits and spices. On the palate, the wine has a solid structure, ripe tannins and a spicy character. “Very pure and fresh, with purple and blue fruits leading the way, followed by notes of tar, violets and mineral. Open-knit but has some grip too. Delicious. Drink now.” -Wine Spectator, 88 points Foods to pair with include: turkey, roasts, red meat, pork, lamb, grilled vegetables, game, fowl, and beef.

Mountain Dome Champagne Tasting Event with Winemaker Erik Manz
|
Mountain Dome Champagne Tasting Thursday, April 3rd Beginning at 6 p.m. Taste 4-5 wines Only $15 per person |
|
In 1984 the Manz family started Mountain Dome in the kitchen of their geodesic dome home. After
spending a few years developing the desired style of sparkling wine, the family decided the 1988 vintage would
be the first commercial release.
A friend suggested that the winery, built on a snowy, tree covered mountain top,
reminded him of a gnome village and created teh Gnome label for Mountain Dome’s Non-Vintage. Mountain Dome
has grown from a family obsession into an award winning winery, producing more than 3,000 cases a year.
Mountain Dome Winery is producing the highest quality sparkling wine. Washington State’s climate produces excellent fruit with the acidity needed to hold up to the bubbles of fine sparkling wine. Lengthy bottle aging while the wine undergoes secondary fermentation creates the tiny bubbles and complexity that Mountain Dome is proud of. The event will start at 6 p.m. and will feature a handful of Mountain Dome’s great selections. Email us at service@corkjoy.com to buy tickets in advance, or call 208-457-9885. |
