Weekend Tasting: Lone Canary Tasting with Mike Scott

This Friday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. and Saturday from 12:00-7:00 p.m. Enoteca will be presenting Lone Canary wines. Mike Scott, owner and winemaker, will be on hand from 4:00-7:00 on Friday to answer questions and share stories! Taste all these wines for $10.
Lone Canary Get your bottle signed by Mike, and ask questions as you taste the new wines!
  • White Wine Sauvignon Blanc 2006 (Washington) – In the nose, the 2006 Sauvignon Blanc presents aromas of pear juice, pineapple and melon with notes of hay and lemongrass. On the palate, it is soft yet bright with flavors of pear, melon and lime; it finishes satisfyingly with hints of grassiness.
  • Red Wine Merlot 2004 (Washington) – Fragrances of plum and earth lead into cherry and plum and chocolate flavors and velvety tannins all presented on a rich, structured palate, with cocoa and prune on the finish. 89% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, 4% Cabernet Sauvignon
  • Red Wine Barbera 2005 (Washington) – Italian in style, it is refined and racy. This Barbera delivers deep ripe black berry notes on a characteristically firm and bright palate. Its finish is well-developed and structured with long flavors of berry, dried cherry, and cola. 100% Barbera “… Lone Canary 2005 Barbera, the latest offering from Spokane wine maker Mike Scott, who continues to amaze by producing red wines that are both tasty and affordable. His Barbera is packed with bright, red fruit flavors, particularly cranberry and currant, and is balanced by precisely the right amount of acidity.” Dan the Wine Guy of The Bellingham Herald – September 2006
  • Red Wine Sangiovese 2004 (Washington) – Scents of cherry, red plum and strawberry with hints of leather and graham. On the palate, it shows flavors of cherry, berry and plum finishing with good fruit length and broad tannins. 84% Sangiovese, 10% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc
  • Red Wine Proprietors’ Reserve 2003 (Yakima Valley, WA) – In the nose, this wine shows notes of black currant, black cherry, sweet tobacco and licorice; on the palate it is soft, plush and deliciously spreads flavors of black currant, blackberry, dark plum and chocolate, finishing with hints of smoke and cedar. 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc
Lone Canary Winery is owned by Mike Scott – former wine maker at Caterina Winery – and Jeanne and Steve Schaub – who are vineyardists and great fans of Mike’s wines. Their logo is an artistic rendering of Washington’s state bird, the American Goldfinch, or Wild Canary. Forging a lone and exciting path using Washington’s exemplary fruit, they have chosen to stand apart from the flock through unique artistic expression in their wines.

Beer Tasting Event: March 8th

Mean Time Strap on your seat belts, we’re gearing up for another great beer tasting event! Thursday, March 8th at 6:00 p.m. Chris McCandless from Great Micros will begin presenting a new line of beers never before available in this market! Be the first on your block to taste this beer. Two brewery’s will be represented, Abita and MeanTime. Meantime was founded by visionary Master Brewer, Alastair Hook, who gathered around him like-minded friends, family and his parents’ dog to form a brewing company to help him realize his vision to connect with the British drinking public in a way that no one else was doing. Alastair’s mission was simple. To demonstrate the full flavour potential that beer has to offer, and to engage the drinking public with those flavours. Founded in 1986, the Abita Brewing Company is nestled in the piney woods 30 miles north of New Orleans. Abita uses only the finest ingredients – British and American barley, German yeast, European and Washington State hops and the pure artesian water of Abita Springs. Their water is drawn from our deep wells, and not altered in any way. Abita Beer has no preservatives, additives or stabilizers and is cold filtered. The result is beer that is the finest and freshest tasting as proven by loyal customers and great chefs of the south who use Abita Beer in their recipes. Try Abita Beer today and taste a bit of the South! The beer tasting event begins at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 8th. As anyone who has been to a Beer Tasting event knows, this is a fun and educational event for the beer connoisseur. Tickets are just $10 per person paid in advance.
