McCrea Winery Tasting this weekend
with Doug McCrea
This Friday from 4-7 Enoteca will be hosting McCrea Cellars sharing some fantastic wine! We’ll be tasting these wines Saturday from 12-7 as well, which is a great time to beat the rush!
We want to give you the opportunity to “try before you buy” so we offer a flight of wine for a low cost. Taste a flight (2 oz. each of 5 wines) for $10 per flight, and follow up with a glass.
(Ciel du Cheval Vineyard, Red Mountain, Washington)
90 pts., Wine Enthusiast “Rich, ripe and round, this lush take on Roussanne is loaded with cantaloupe, sweet pineapple and Meyer lemon fruit flavors. The fruit is brought forward by a small amount of residual sugar, which seems like an enhancement in this instance. The finish has just a hint of honey cough drop – sweet and slightly minty.” $26
85% Roussanne, 15% Marsanne
(Boushey Lower County Line Road Vineyard, Yakima Valley, Washington)
95 points Editors’ Choice, Wine Enthusiast: “Among McCrea’s Rhône-inspired white wines, this is the most complete and complex. It’s rich and dense, with honeycomb, lychee, lemon rind, pineapple and lots of stone – lovely and lingering. It seems to gain strength as it rolls through a sensational finish.” $28
40% Grenache Blanc, 30% Marsanne, 20% Roussanne, 10% Picpoul
(Yakima Valley, Washington)
Generally medium-bodied with a transparent complexity, the whites are some of the finest ever and the reds will posses a rare “beauty,” delicacy, and elegant style. They should age gracefully. $30
81% Grenache, 7% Syrah, 5% Counoise, 5% Cinsault, 2% Mourvèdre
(Yakima Valley, Washington)
Since we began the Syrah trend in Washington it has exploded in popularity – from about ten acres in 1997 to over 4000 today! It seems nearly every winery is producing a Syrah or using it in blends of all sorts. This version is derived from ripe fruit but handled very carefully, developing intense berry and black cherry flavors without over extraction or heavy tannins. It has licorice, cedar and mushrooms on the nose and finishes with black pepper and good acidity. Our goal is to achieve a balance between New World intensity and Old World elegance. It will cellar well – ten years or more. $28
Ciel du Cheval Vineyard, Red Mountain, Elephant Mountain, Boushey Grande Côte Vineyard
100% Syrah
(Yakima Valley, Washington)
Specific vineyard sources: Ciel du Cheval, Red Mountain (Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah). Elephant Mtn. Vyd., Yakima Valley (Counoise, Cinsault)
This wine is a beautiful pairing with lamb, veal, hearty soups, medium-weight pasta preparations, upland game and fowl. The predominant Grenache brings peppery, spicy red fruits; the Mourvèdre adds smokiness and structure; the Syrah, Counoise and Cinsault spice it up with berries, licorice, violets and chocolate. $30
46% Grenache, 31% Mourvèdre, 15% Syrah, 4% Counoise, 4% Cinsault
Remember the Orphan Shelf – 20% Off Yummy Wine & Beer
What is the Orphan Shelf? It’s our fun way of closing out wine & beer to make way for the new stuff.
It’s located right at the checkout counter, and we offer a 20% discount on these products to
our Wine & Beer of the Month Club Members.
Why are products orphaned? Well, basically they are forgotten. Selling great one week and yesterdays news the next. Forgotten greats that need a home. Junebe the label isn’t show stopping or it’s from an area people are not familiar with so it just sits quietly, patently waiting to be adopted. Open your heat and mind these are really great wines!
The orphan shelf has had some recent admittants. Several bottles of wine were discovered that have been waiting for a home, and some beer has even migrated to the orphan shelf. Club members receive a 20% discount whenever they adopt an orphan. Find it in your heart.
A wide range of very delicious bottles are currently up for adoption. Come peer into the glassed-over eyeballs of these little fellas and see if one of them doesn’t tug at your heart. Pleeeze sir, can I have some more?

First released by Randall Grahm of Bonny Doon Vineyard in 1992, Pacific Rim Dry Riesling quickly gained a loyal following among Riesling lovers. Known for its fresh and bright characteristics, the wine was a welcome alternative to over-oaked, one-dimensional white wines. As the American palate evolved in recent years toward wines with greater complexity and crisper acidity, the popularity of Pacific Rim Dry Riesling grew.
Demand and enthusiasm for Pacific Rim Dry Riesling continued to gain momentum — and the excitement around the wine inspired a radical idea… the creation a winery exclusively dedicated to Riesling. In August of 2006, a small band of Bonny Doon expats moved to the Northwest from California with a common desire to craft the best Riesling in America… thus, Pacific Rim became its own winery.
At Pacific Rim, we are passionate about Riesling (in fact, nearly 90% of Pacific Rim’s production is comprised of Riesling wines); we are passionate about crafting world-class Riesling; and we are passionate about extolling the wondrous virtues of Riesling. If you’re not presently a Riesling zealot, we’re certain that you, too, will soon discover the marvels of our favorite variety…Riesling.
This is a 1/2 price event, and you must buy tickets in advance to attend.
We’ll be holding one limited seating tasting at 7 pm. $5 per person, buy your tickets early!
